Lock and Load - The Official Firearms Thread -

So there seems to be a lot of questions, comments, and general firearms-related discussion on the board lately. Figured why not start a single thread to consolidate all the advice, best practices, news, pictures, etc.

How is the reloading working out for you? The last time I looked into reloading, the equipment could be had for a good price. The problem was the cost of shot and primers. The only way to beat a factory load was to buy in large qty. And I'm talking pallet sizes. I spent many years in my families basement reloading 12, 20, 28, 410 gauges. 12ga reloader was a Pacific that made one round each time you pulled the handle. The other gauges were standard MEC's that required five pulls per one load.

I did the math a long time ago and for .45 long colt it definitely makes it almost half. 1 box of ammo at the store is around $20, I can reload it for almost half. For .45 acp and others I can find ammo cheap enough that it isn't worth it. Reloading was also something I just wanted to learn about and my step-dad is big into it and reloads everything.

Reloading something that everyone that is into guns should know. My dad taught me and here learned because factory loads were expensive to practice with. He shot Skeet semi-professionally and ran a couple of ranges over the years. So he spent many days at the range just practicing for the next shoot. I would get back into reloading if the cost was better. I did actually enjoy it!
I think the older crowd of shooter starter reloading due to the fact that the factory would produce a high level of duds. Recently I read that most of the manufacturers out there are down to less than a 1% dud rate and with the amount that they are cranking out each year I think that's pretty decent numbers. You would probably have a better chance of winning the lottery!
Ok well some of you guys know i'm starting a LLC for AR parts. I love the rifle, love building them, love tweeking them. But I grew up a Glock fan boy, and still have a modified G19. Its stock on the outside and titanium this and that on the inside.
Though I've helped several people with their AR, my own AR is not complete. I'm poor... wtf do you guys want from me? It will have a laundry list of parts when its done, but the goal is to be able to shoot 1MOA at +500 yards... shut up!
Plans for the AR:
Alexander Arms 6.5Grendel Barrel (Hbar 18 inch)
Rock River EOP upper
Big latch charge handle
DPMS lower
Rock River Match Trigger
Rock River winter trigger gaurd
Hogue Grip
Adjustable Buttstock
Aluminum free float hand guard (i might go to a quad rail)
Yankee Hill pins
And a scope that will cost me at least as much as the rifle build
All i have left to buy is the Barrel... i have every single part on it or ready to go! now if i can just find $400 laying around!
