Looking for advice on a new car - November 6, 2012, 05:11 PM

I'll be getting a car in 2014 or possible early 2015. Just looking at my options in the future so I have something to look forward to.

I'm looking for something in the mid $30k range that gets at least 30mpg highway and does 0-60mph below 6 seconds. That pretty much limits most cars to 4 cylinder turbo. I'd probably go for something automatic, but not a deal breaker. Prefer RWD or AWD but also not a deal breaker.

So far I'm thinking this is pretty much it

1) 2012 or '13 BMW 328i M-sport CPO ~$35k
2) 2014 VW GTI or Golf R ~$35k
3) Cadillac ATS? Not too sure about this one
4) Perhaps something from Hyundai? Maybe Veloster or Genesis

I will admit I am biased......get the GTI or Golf R!!!!

I have a 2009 GTI and love the hell out of that car. Fast, comfy and just looks friggin great. Easy to work on for basic maintenance stuff too.

Like I said at the jump....I am biased.

This was the first serious post you had it made me teary-eyed!

I don't think you would be able to get the 328 for $35,000. Unless you want the car bare-bones which I don't think they even make.

Have you looked into Subaru. Get a WRX limited. AWD, crazy dependable, good gas mileage, good performance.

In a couple years you don't think I can get a used CPO 328i for $35k? I'd want to find one that's optioned out.

I don't like the interior that any Subaru has and the MPG from them isn't all that impressive.

I take my tears back! But yeah in two years it'll be in the mid 20s I'd think.

I picked up a 2012 Kia Optima SX (turbo version) this summer with every option except navigation. I love it, and for what you get for your money I think it's pretty hard to beat. Got mine out the door for $28k. It's FWD only, but just throwing another decent option into the mix for ya

Those cars are pretty sweet, I don't care about the FWD all that much. I've driven the 2013 SXL and the handling of the car is quite disconnected. Really nice car and I'd possibly consider it as a last resort, mainly because of the nice warranty.
