Looking for a boxer/boxer mix - May 2, 2012, 02:35 PM

I am looking for a Boxer/Boxer mix puppy or young dog (1-2 years). I live in Leesburg, Va in a larger townhouse. My roommate owns the house and is ok with the dog, as he and his girlfriend have two German Shepherds. Our home is already certified as a foster home through Virginia German Shepherd Rescue, and one of the Shepherds currently living with us is a foster.

I would like to find a dog who is ok with other dogs, and children, at minimum, good with cats would be nice, but not a necessity. My parents have a cat, but she is skittish and hides from anyone other than my mom and dad, so I don't see cat socialization as an issue. Create trained or house broken is a major plus, but with younger dogs not a must. I would like to be able to meet the dog in my own home around the two dogs that are there currently, just to make sure everyone gets along well, so if traveling to Leesburg, Va is to far, please let me know, I can try to arrange something. I am willing to pay a small adoption fee, but am not going to "buy" a dog, so please do not plan on making any kind of money from this.

Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who might be in need of rehoming their pet.

Thanks!

Both broke and looking for a good home. One bites, but has been socialized and trained to be kinder to its keepers.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

Looked there, most are from rescues, and I can not stand rescue people. They're all a bunch of dog nazis and just piss me off in the end with their multiple interviews and home inspections. I'll pass. Thanks though.

keep checking the shelters man.

Shelter dogs are the most loyal, thankful little buddies in the world. They know what you save them from.

+1 for shelter dogs, large dogs are easy to find there

My fiance and I vend and sell dog toys at some dog events so i'll keep an eye and ear out for someone. Don't expect anything super soon but I do hear a bout alot of dogs but mostly border collies.

Are there any other breeds you are looking for that I should listen for?

No experience with this organization, but a quick search found Boxer Rescue and Adoption Inc, that service DC, MD, VA. Here is their petfinder page. Looks like several dogs in Reston.

Got my dog from the Bmore pound... LOTS of dogs there, and wasn't expensive. Worth a look.

ah yes you beat me to it. Maryland is beginning to prosecute anyone who has helped an owner of a pitbull who has had violent tendencies. Thus many pitbulls and stereotyped dogs will be put up for adoption. So it's a good idea to watch the shelter in the next few weeks.

Yeah, +1,000.

Shit like that drives me nuts..

But look at this - "Now the law finds pit bull owners throughout Maryland absolutely accountable for the behavior of their dogs."

shouldn't that be the case with ALL Dogs? regardless of breed / size? Makes no sense to me.
