Lost Rhino Brewpub in Ashburn - December 6, 2012, 09:37 PM

Went in to my local brew store near work (in Reston/Herndon) before I headed home. I try and buy my beer in VA to avoid paying the 9% MD tax on beer on top of the MoCo distibutuon fees already levied on beer in MoCo MD.

Anyway, picked up a bomber of Mad Elf and wanted an IPA for something to contrast the Mad Elf. They had Lost Rhino Hop^3 IPA on draft. So I got my growler filled after a taste test.

Home now - This is an outstanding double IPA. I'll be going back on Monday after I drain the growler over the weekend.

Any reviews on the Lost Rhino brewpub in Ashburn? Their reviews on beer advocate are a mixed bag, not many reviews. This place is 10 mins from my work and am going to check them out. Hop^3 hits the spot for me. I'd love to drain this growler tonight but Friday is going to be busy at work.

The place itself, on the customer side, is kind of small. Maybe a dozen tables or so. When it gets busy, be prepared to stand in line to order.

They have a very small selection of munchies, apps, sammiches and salads, but they're decent.

I'm not a beer drinker, and have only been there once, but I really enjoyed it. From the overall atmosphere to the apps to the beers. And yes, I did try one of everything (except the stout) and enjoyed them all.

For me, on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the good side), I would definitely give it a 4. And if I were a beer drinker, I'd be there a lot more often.

It's a good spot, and they brew really good beer. I would expect them to expand locations soon, as they are having issues right now supplying the demand for their beer.

Other bars around Ashburn are starting to put their Faceplant beer on tap as well (Caliente and Broadlands pub at least)

I would strongly recommend their faceplant, 2-3 or those are you're good to go, just watch out for the hangover

My favorite from them is their Apocalyptic Ale. They don't currently have it on tap, but they say it's coming back soon.

Already dipping into that (second) growler of Lost Rhino Hop^3 mango Double IPA. This brew is awesome!

Going to make some lunch, let the Hop^3 wear off and then I'm go into the shop and fire up the table saw and make some sawdust. Want to finish all the woodcutting on these closet shelves today.

I would be all over a brew meetup at Lost Rhino.

I was excited to see a brewery/brewpub pop up there ever since Old Dominion's brewpub closed and moved to MD. Lost Rhino's eating area isn't as nice as OD's was, and I'm wondering if it will ever expand. The place is pretty much across from where I work, even close than where OD was.
