Loudoun Co Ballot Issues - November 2, 2009, 10:15 PM

Just say no to bonds.

More schools=more expenses=more taxes.

Too many damn bond issues have been passed in this county. Most people don't have a clue what they're voting for.

Ashburn/Dulles Area Elementary School
Question: Shall the County of Loudoun, Virginia contract a debt and issue its general obligation capital improvement bonds in the maximum amount of $21,810,000 to finance, in whole or in part, the cost to design, construct and equip the new Ashburn/Dulles Area Elementary School (ES-20)?
( ) YES
(X) NO

Dulles Area High School
Question:Shall the County of Loudoun, Virginia contract a debt and issue its general obligation capital improvement bonds in the maximum amount of $82,235,000 to finance, in whole or in part, the cost to design, construct and equip the new Dulles Area High School II (HS-7)
( ) YES
(X) NO

See what I mean about taxes.

Food and Beverage Tax
Question: Shall Loudoun County, Virginia, be authorized to levy a tax,
pursuant to Virginia Code Section 58.1-3833(A), on food and beverages sold
for human consumption by restaurants and on prepared foods sold ready for
human consumption by grocery stores and convenience stores, in an amount
not to exceed 4% of the amount charged for such food and beverages, to be
used exclusively for school construction projects and school construction debt
service?

( ) YES
(X) NO

I'm okay with fire stations though. Can't have too many of them when some BDC pulls out in front of you.

Fire & Rescue Station
Question: Shall the County of Loudoun, Virginia contract a debt and issue its general obligation capital improvement bonds in the maximum amount of $8,585,000 to finance, in whole or in part, the cost to design, construct and equip the new Routes 9 and 671 Area Fire & Rescue Station?
(X) YES
( ) NO

Rt671 is Harper's Ferry Rd. There are lots of wrecks and major house fires out that way.

i would vote yes to the school projects if they expanded english as a second or third language courses.

then again, I live in Arlington and the more money you invest in schools the better for me - we have the highest per capita cost per student in the state, like top 3 in country...

+1 to Travis, IMO. You can't dictate to them how they will use the money, anyway. They need to upgrade existing infrastructure first. Why do all these new places get new schools when established places that are waaaaaay old can't even get modernized? We need to learn to do more with less.

Now is the time to build. I do a lot of work for LCPS, and my contacts told me a while ago that the bids came in significantly lower than projected. Contractors are hungry.
Anyway, ES-20 is already under way. Slabs and footers coming along now. HS-5 and HS-7 are nearly complete shells with dry-in expected soon. Your money is already spent, regardless of bonds. I guess all counties do that. I thought PW was the only one that had public hearings and stuff for projects already half done.
*edit: HS-3 is Woodgrove, HS-5 is Tuscarora, HS-7 is unnamed but going near South Riding and has not started yet. Got the numbers kunfuzed.

I don't have kids, but I'm all for money for schools. That said, I also expect some kind of ROI on the money I invest and I'm not seeing a decent return in Loudon Cty. I see a lot of brand new buildings and some cushy positions being created on my dime.

I also object to the repeated "F you" from elected officials when something is voted down like the meals tax. This issue has been up for vote on several occasions and keeps being voted down. http://www.loudouni.com/news/2009-10...tax-resurfaces

What a joke. Everyone should be offended that our local gov't think we're stupid enough to believe this.

Allow it and they will tax it. Anyone here remember when the fee for using the Dulles Toll rd was supposed to be phased out? Yeah, that never happened.

My bad, this is last year's. This is the only thing that turned up when I searched, didn't notice the date.

Nice to see the county can afford these schools that were approved last year.

This is like the first time in a while there weren't any bond issues.
