Mac OS Lion: Thoughts so far? - March 2, 2011, 10:04 PM

Anyone else have the benefit of beta testing Lion?

Nice new swiping gestures. Launchpad is cool. Back/forward swiping in Safari.

Scrolling is reversed now which takes a little time to get used to. So far I'm loving it.

Recycle doesn't work which is a bummer; Reason does work.

You can switch that backwards scrolling preference.

Bummer that recycle doesn't work. Maybe they'll patch it.

If you want logic 8, i can help...

Yea, bummer. "PowerPC applications are no longer supported" error.

Nice! Just changed the scrolling...might eventually change it back.

I have Logic 8 so I think I'll install it later on if needed.

Did you notice there is no download manager for Safari? Citrix for one can't be downloaded without it in Safari (that I am aware of). Used Firefox instead to install Citrix.

Did you do a fresh install or upgrade?

i actually am still sitting on an ISO, havent installed it yet

if you need powerPC apps like recycle, etc, the best option is a VM. Mac now officially allows virtual machines as long as its still on mac hardware.

I haven't used safari at all since I downloaded firefox and chrome

Fusion works fine for me too; just don't like the latency since I don't have 8gb ram or i7 processor...lol. Good suggestion, though.

A while back. Subtle changes to the license agreement, followed by support in VirtualBox

Of course, Google would have told you this...

I had 7 running on a VB VM with only 2GB of ram on the host mini. Ran pretty well in seamless mode but I was only doing very basic stuff.

Now with 8GB on the host and 2GB dedicated to the virtual....

Just so you know, Crucial has been running awesome specials on their stuff lately. Might want to check it out.

When will the new OS be available to the public?

I bought a mac less than a week ago. It deff takes some time to get use to. Does Firfox and chrome work that much better than Safari?

I agree. Basic computing allows it to run efficiently but music production sucks via VM if there isn't enough resources dedicated.

Checked Crucial, didn't see anything more than 4gb?

I would say early June would be close.

I wouldn't say either browser works much better; more about preference and benefit of add-ons.
