Mavericks also can compress inactive memory, which means you can squeeze 6GB of data into 4GB of system RAM

Apple Maps now integrated

they didn't have to do that, I was happy enough that it was only usually a 15-20 dollar upgrade for each OS

Guessing Tim Cook is making the decision to move OSX to free for iterative updates, pay for complete version update model.

The memory compression looks like it is going to be pretty sweet. Here is an in depth review in case anyone is interested in reading:

Is it just me or is the a Big F U to Microsoft. Apple we make money on Hardware, so we don't have to charge for OS. Microsoft no hardware, must make money on OS.

So now people will expect all OS's to be free, right?

Correct. If you think about the treatment of mobile OS's, it is what Apple has been slowly conditioning their owners to expect.

I am sure internally the question was murmured about why Mac OS remained a paid model for largely incremental updates, while iOS was free to all no matter the version update so long as the user updated to the latest version Apple was signing.

I will note that MS just released Windows 8.1 as free. I'm still figuring out what it actually does though other than adding a home button that goes back to the home screen. I hate Windows 8

Good thing it's on my wife's laptop and not mine.
