The Madoff Tapes - February 28, 2011, 04:29 PM

Decent enough read. What a scumbag though. He should do the honorable thing and kill himself like his son did.

The recorded phone calls are at the bottom of the article.

An Interview With Bernie Madoff -- New York Magazine

One evening, my home phone rang. “You have a collect call from Bernard Madoff, an inmate at a federal prison,” a recording announced. And there he was....

See, the thing is: At this point so many seniors are dependent on social security, you'll never convince them to vote candidates in who want to abolish it...

Oh wait... sorry, we're talking about the OTHER ponzi scheme.

At least Social Security people will get something back.

And - this is dedicated to you fitz - the reason why we can't pay for Social Security is because we're spending trillions on guns and fighting the fights we have no stake in.

Flame on. hehehe

You're bought into the scaremonger arguments. Social Security "troubles" really amount to having the eligibility age bumped up by ~3 years. SS can be made solvent for the next 25 years overnight with small changes like that.

And that is what will continue to happen forever. As we live longer but have the same proportion of workers/retirees, we will continue to keep bumping the SS age.

What is interesting - and may possibly be true - is that once they take account of all the assets and supposedly confiscate money people who already cashed out, people may very well get their full investment principals back. Madoff did make some money... it's just that no one will get their 20% ponzi juice. That is if the lawyer fees don't eat it all up, but I think this is a criminal case and the Feds are eating the bill?

These sorts of stories make me think; is there really a way to punish 75 year olds? Especially after they've lived a full and glorious life based on their criminal proceeds?
