Talking Marking the Unmarked LE Vehicle Thread -- for entertainment purposes only - March 30, 2009, 08:17 AM

Let's say you have an emergency and need to find a LEO ASAP. How can you tell an unmarked LE vehicle? Post your tips.

1. Tinted windows, especially darker than usual
2. Domestic make
3. Outline of strobes through tinted rear window
4. Aerial(s)/Antennae array
5. No dealer emblems on rear
6. No stickers like "my dog's on your honor roll"
7. Out of the ordiniary or official looking license plate
8. Spotlight on driver side
9. Clean, as in not a lot of road filth or mud
10. No crap on the rear window shelf like stuffed animals, baseball caps, or gold crowns with purple faux gemstones.
11. Going a different speed than the rest of traffic, either faster or slower
12. Camping out in the left-most lane
13. Anything parked on the side of the road (trunk lid up is a tricky one)
14. Cracked-open passenger seat windows -- could be K9

Obviously there are exceptions, and you should always obey traffic laws to the letter.

I've observed that the LE Crown Vics usually have dual exhaust and wider tires than the geriatric version.

I'm very cautious whenever I see crown vics, impalas, and black GM suvs. Never seen a colored LE suv before.

I have seen many unmarked LEs with county sticker, etc. They have made them more common looking now. The biggest tip off is the tint though. Anytime you see an Impalla with darker tint than any car is allowed, it's a lock that its LE behind the wheel.

Also, I have seen where they put some kind of cardboard in the back driver side door so you cannot see the shoulder patch as you roll up on them. I think that is more about HOV partrol than anything else.

In Great Falls,VA if you ever see a silver Dodge Avenger that will be the car to stop for help! Looks totally stock except for the LEO with the radar gun hanging out the window. I will find the tag number for ya also.

That's when they've stopped protecting and serving, and just turned in to tax collectors.

If they are going the speed limit in the left lane (using a car described above), just to fuck with traffic, they might be a cop.

If you have tinted windows, wide tires, dual exhaust and are sitting in the median of the highway, you might be a cop.

If you find pleasure in making people squirm in their seat, you might want to change your career so you can be a cop.

But really, I just stay observant, utilize the stretches of road where it is less likely for a cop to hide, such as Hwy stretches with concrete barriers along both sides of the road.

If I'm in my car, cruise control FTW!
