DONT!!! IM Serious. If you do though here are some helpful hints. You probably wont listen, but its on you:

* Maintain a separate account. You can do the joint thing, but have a separate rokshox account too.
* Don't do joint credit cards
* Don't do joint loans
* if you (individually) own your house then don't put your SO name on it. If you need to refinance then do it without them.
* kiss 1/2 your 401k goodbye
* dont have kids until like years 3-5
* Most important. Make sure he/she is a A-Z spouse. That means that they like doing all the things you like. Notice I didn't say willing to try. I said like. You'll be sorry when she likes A-Y,Z, but not X. Its tolerable for a couple of years, but it will get on your nerves. Make sure she likes A-Z.
* Be honest and open. Let everything out up front. If you like midget porn featuring ponies then say it. Its too late to say that shit several years down the line. Dont be ashamed of your likes. Too many people suppress their desires in hopes of changing the others to accept it. My new moto is like it about me or kick rocks.
* Keep your families out of your business. In-laws and parents complicate matters especially if they are from a different generation
* Keep friends out of your business. Too much BS is inputed in peoples heads without knowing both sides told by both sides.

If I think up more I will post.

Married for 12. Going through a divorce because someone thinks that 32K in CC/loans in 6 months is ok if its advice from their sister.

hfam95 has it straight--listen to him. I've been married nearly 10 years. Things can unravel any time. I think almost all marriages get backed into the ropes at some point or another. Be diligent about looking for and addressing slow leaks. Say your spouse gives you a hard time about something you know you cannot change about yourself (like a love for sportbikes). Better get that squared away right quick. Also, if your spouse does something unfair to you in certain circumstances, like in arguing, get that taken care of too. Otherwise, it'll be a slow leak that'll leave you flat one day, I promise you.
