Targeting Slow Drivers in Fast Lane | NBC Washington

Montgomery County Feels Need for Speed

County considers cracking down on slow drivers

Is there such a thing as driving too slow in the fast lane? Some people in Maryland think so. But should state law be changed so that slow drivers get cited?

advertisement
Don’t you hate it when you’re cruising down the highway and suddenly find yourself stuck behind some car inching along at 40 mph?
Montgomery County police apparently do. They’re looking to change the law to require cars in the left lane of some roads to yield to faster cars.
Drivers would have to pull to the right lane if they were driving below the speed limit.
They’d even have to pull over if they were driving at or above the speed limit, if a car from behind was going even faster.
“So, this is a free pass for people driving over the posted speed limit,” Councilman George L. Leventhal (D-At large), of Takoma Park, told the Gazette. “That’s not good policy.”
The Maryland General Assembly would have to approve the change.

So no one see's a person doing 45 to 55 on a road that is marked 65 as a safety issue?
A car cruising along at 65 - 70 suddenly finds themselves on the ass of a car in the fast lane 20mph slower and has to jam on the brakes.
Any car behind has no idea wtf is going on and slams on their brakes. A nice 3 car pile up happens and the rat bastard doing 45 - 55 just keeps going.

I hate drivers doing even the speed limit just riding along in the fast lane and the slow lane is wide open. Everyone around them has to swerve to the slow lane to pass.
When they see 2 or 3 cars do it, shouldn't it be a clue to gtfootw!!!

In Vienna I received a ticket for going to slow. Those who know the Tyson area know the road I'm talking about. Officer was sitting in his car facing traffic sees me jumps out pulls me to the side ask me what I was doing, my response was this is a school zone just wanted to make sure that no little ones would run out takes my info comes back with a ticket for impeding traffic! Yes I was on my bike now check this
Posted Speed 25 mph
My speed 19 mph

^thats crazy and I would have fought that ticket but I gotta say the DMV has a ton of faggots that hog up the fast lane when all they intend on doing is the speed limit and feel that it's their right when the slow lane is wide open. I do don't mind someone driving slow but do it in the slow lane. You match speed to block the highway or sta on the fast lane for shits and giggles you get buzzed.

I know that in PA you can get a ticket for cruising in the passing lane. If we were like Germany in that aspect the roads would be perfect and half the idiots wouldnt have a license. If you are in the left lane and not passing someone you get fined no matter how fast you are going. The left lane is meant for passing and even says so when you are learning to get your license. They are looking to far into it saying it gives someone a free pass to speed. Md needs to pull its head out of its ass.

Doesn't Montgomery county have the most speed cameras in the state? This is probably just another way to increase that revenue by making people speed up.

Drive to fast, you get a camera ticket. Drive to slow to avoid camera, you get impeding traffic ticket.
