Talking MD State Trooper Arrested For Growing Marijuana At Home - July 10, 2008, 11:42 AM

PUFF PUFF GIVE...

FREDERICK, MD - A state trooper has been suspended without pay after his arrest by Maryland State Police Wednesday night on drug charges.
The trooper is identified as Trooper First Class Steven W. Spoonire, 36, of Frederick County, MD.
He is charged with manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation began Wednesday when members of the Frederick County Drug Task Force received information indicating that marijuana may be growing outside Spoonire's single-family home where he lives with his wife and two children.

Police began an investigation that resulted in the service of a search and seizure warrant at Spoonire's home Wednesday evening.
The investigation and subsequent search were conducted by police from the Frederick County Drug Task Force, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, and Maryland State Police from the Frederick and Westminster barracks. During the search, police found a cultivated suspected marijuana plant about two feet tall growing near the back door of the home.
Police found drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana seeds inside the home.

Spoonire was arrested by state police at his home at about 8:00 p.m. He was taken to the Frederick County Central Booking Center for processing and to await an initial appearance before a court commissioner.
As a result of the arrest and felony charge, a state police supervisor suspended Spoonire without pay.
Spoonire has been a trooper with the state police for 16 years. He had been assigned to road patrol duties at the Westminster Barracks.

This is really not surprising. My uncle works out of the Cumberland barracks, and he said that there afew other troopers through-out MD that could be getting looked at for the same thing.

what sucks, is if you grow, they seize your home. Its taken, and for one plant, one two foot tall plant, his house is toast.

Sucks.

Two feet tall that's it?

I was waiting the article to say they seized rooms full of it.

Dude should have moved to Cali if he wanted to grow his own.

Nope. A law enforcement officer that voluntarily involves himself in illegal narcotic activity should have the book thrown at him. Make an example of him. What's his excuse? "I didn't know I wasn't allowed to grow Mary J in my backyard?" He should have held himself to a higher standard, or chosen another career. Think I'm being overly harsh? I would expect the same treatment, if I made such an egregious error in judgement. I know the laws I enforce, and I don't break them. Period.

A little bit of Mary J never hurt anybody. He should have chosen another career if he wanted to grow it at home though.
