I dunno Heist, Audi hadnt dipped their toe into the super car market until the R8, if the platform exists and just needs some new bodywork, and higher end luxury components I can see it.

I really do wonder if they will dump some Volt motors in to the front end of the Vette in a couple years.
Who are they competing against? Rarri? Lambo? are they doing the same?

I know the lexus and NXR have a set up like that.

The R8 was more or less a byproduct of their acquisition of Lamborghini.
Audi had a deep history in racing going as far back as the Auto Union days, but didn't push forward on extending this into consumer market.

They already knew Lambo needed an entry level model like Ferrari, and decided why not amortize development cost of the Gallardo by putting an Audi hat on the chassis as well.

If they do, it'll probably be something like the Ford GT equivalent. Low volume hyper car. Probably not a Vette.

Then in 3 or 4 years I see a mid engine V6TT with electric motors up front to make it AWD.
Whelp, I was wrong... The 755-horsepower 2019 CORVETTE ZR1
