MOTOPED SURVIVAL BIKE - August 5, 2014, 05:04 PM

MOTOPED SURVIVAL BIKE
Most survival packs include plenty of stuff to help you ride out the worst of times — except for transportation. Fortunately, the Motoped Survival Bike has you covered. Powered by a 4-stroke engine, the bike gets excellent gas mileage, and uses downhill mountain bike parts mounted to a custom frame and swing arm for rugged reliability. As for the survival part? Well, it also comes outfitted with a crossbow, one-gallon gas pack, a survival shovel, a tomahawk, a harpoon, a fixed blade saw, a lighting system, carabiners and climbing rope, a flashlight, a multifunction knife/light, two multi-tools, a neck knife, and a bike mount for that most versatile of tools, your smartphone.

Interesting. Could be fun.

Is very fun...still waiting on my registration sticker and need more carb fiddling, but it's exactly as much fun as you would expect a downhill bike with a 141cc motor to be.

That looks insanely fun. How much did your setup cost to put together big_sur?

Mine probably ended up being around $3.5k, but I just got the frame kit and didn't really compromise on any of the parts except the fork (and it's still a Fox 40 RC2). If you got the complete kit minus the engine, and just put a cheap 50cc in it, you could probably build one for just under $2k. I'm not sure if you can still get them for the kickstarter price though. I hear dealers are selling those basic ones built from the complete kit, and assembled with a motor, for $3k.
