Motorbike runs into whitehouse motorcade - April 18, 2010, 12:13 PM

The president of the United States and the trappings of high office had an indirect but unexpected encounter Saturday with the trials of District traffic when a motorbike appeared to run into a car in a White House motorcade.

Even in a city where motorcades are almost a daily activity and way of life, it is unusual for one of the vehicles to be in a collision of any sort.

A written account prepared by a press pool reporter who was with the presidential party said a motorbike or moped rider "slides into" the last police vehicle in the president's motorcade just after it had turned from North Capitol Street onto Gallatin Street NW.

"Biker dusts himself off," the account read, and "glares at police driver."

Then, according to the pool report, the police driver "glares back."

At this point, when it seemed that almost anything might have happened, essentially nothing did.

The officer and the biker "just kind of looked at each other," Kevin Diaz of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, who wrote the pool report, said in an interview. "The cops didn't even get out," he said.

In the words of the pool report, the "biker then drives off without apparent injury." Efforts to determine the biker's identity Saturday night were unsuccessful.

Police officials said they had no report of the incident and a Secret Service spokesman also said he knew nothing about it. Diaz said it appeared too minor for a report to be made.

The pool account said about a dozen vehicles were in the motorcade, which left the White House about 9:30 a.m. Saturday for a field in Northwest Washington where one of the president's daughters was in a soccer game.

This President's motorcade has had more accidents than any I can ever think of.
Biden's motorcade has already been involved in 2 fatal accidents.
One in SE while coming back from Andrews where they hit a pedestrian and another in some other state.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.
