LOS ANGELES -- Chaos briefly reigned on a 12-lane freeway east of Los Angeles Sunday when a motorcyclist dropped a canvas bag full of cash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, and some motorists stopped in 65 mph traffic to grab fluttering bills.

Traffic was halted on the eastbound freeway near Garfield Avenue when the bills began blowing around, California Highway Patrol officers said.
According to CHP Officer Anthony Martin, a motorcyclist dropped a computer bag full of cash on the eastbound freeway at Garfield Avenue, about five miles east of the Los Angeles Civic Center.

CHP officers dispatched to the scene at 10:56 a.m. found a Harley Davidson stopped in the No. 3 lane, its black T-shirt-clad rider claiming that he had dropped the bag that had ripped open and scattered currency around the freeway.

Martin said some motorists, throwing caution to the wind, exited their vehicles and gathered up cash.

Once CHP officers arrived, they said they saw several motorists getting back in their vehicles and leaving. Martin said no one knows how much money was initially inside the computer bag, who owned it, or how much was recovered by motorists.

CHP officers said they were able to assist the Harley owner to gather up some of the money that had been missed by passing motorists.
Martin said the scene was cleared by 11:22 a.m.

It was probably drug money from all the crystal meth his little motorcycle gang sells. I'd have confiscated what was left of the money and demanded proof of legitimacy before returning it.
