My Post-Op Update...w/Pictures!!! - November 26, 2007, 09:51 PM

Hey there everybody!
First, we'd like to say hello and hope that every one had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As you all know, I had my surgery at the beginning of last week, and I'm sure that you all are wondering how things went. Well....things went great actually! First off, there was no need for a nerve graft, so let me get that out of the way. What we were told could have turned into a 10-14 hr surgery lasted only 4 1/2 hours. The nerve, as far as it's ability to transfer signals, is working just fine. They hooked me up to the electrodes and shocked it, got great readings all the way through the nerve, and there was no substantial damage to the nerve when they actually looked at it from the inside. Now, this does not mean everything is back to normal for me though...yet. There was damage to the nerve, turns out the nerve was actually stretched. I don't remember much from when the doctor came in to talk to me, (I was still coming off the anesthesia) but Erica said the doc relayed that a stretched nerve does take a substantial amount of time to heal. So, I've still got a few months of physical therapy under my belt before I'm in the clear. There was also some scar tissue that they cleaned out while they had me open, maybe that might help to speed things up some.
Since the surgery was not as long and involved as we were prepared for, I was actually released from the hospital the next day. So, I had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal & gathering with my in-laws. The only downside from the surgery is that the doctor didn't really care too much about making my incision look descent when he closed me back up. I've got about a 9-12 inch scar going down my arm that looks like a back alley drug dealer sewed me up. It really is a horrible job, and done with 42 staples. There are pictures below.
Thank you to every one that has stayed with us through all of this, and for all the warm thoughts and prayers you've kept with us.

Now I can really find out if chicks dig scars!

I think Holy Dr. Frankenstein would be more appropriate.

Luckily chicks dig scars.

I dig scars.
I was mad at MTNHGH for having a better battle scar than me... you definitely win, though.

Chicks dig scars, especially motorcycle scars. Glad to hear you're doing well.

Okay, upon first glance at the thread title, I thought "post-op?" "pictures?"

Then I realized it was Nori. :whew:

Good to hear the surgery went well! Even better to realize it wasn't the kind of surgery I associate with "post-op".

definatly great news bobby. glad you were home for the holiday, shame you had to spend it with the inlaws. those scars wont be as raised when healed give it a little time after the staples come out and start thinking of the cool stories you can tell.

The staples look like the ones that were in my Cankles. Heal up and be well.

Oh yeah, scars are HAWT!! I hate staples tho...scars from staples are MUCH worse than with stitches. I told my family if ever i'm in an accident, do NOT let them use staples to close me up!!!!

I'm happy for you Bobby!!! So glad to hear some good news for you, has been WAY too long since you had any with that arm. from all of us
