Mythbusters .... d'oh! - December 7, 2011, 08:35 AM

Looks like the Mythbusters had a misfire of a 6" cannonball that fired over the tanks of water and cinderblock wall that were designed to slow it down. Instead, it fired out of the shooting range they were at, into a neighborhood, through someones front door, ricocheted upstairs, out the back wall, bounced over a highway, and landed in some poor schmucks sienna passenger seat.

Lawsuiiiiiiits!

I wish they would have a Mythbusters trying to debunk the myth that a cannonball can shoot through a house, over a highway, and into someones minivan.

'Mythbusters' cannonball hits Dublin home, minivan

It was bound to happen ...

I'm still surprised they're both alive.

Can't wait for them to bust the Potassium Cholrate and a 5lb Gummy Bear = Rocket Fuel myth.

"There, the 6-inch projectile bounced in front of a home on quiet Cassata Place, ripped through the front door, raced up the stairs and blasted through a bedroom, where a man, woman and child slept through it all - only awakening because of plaster dust.

The ball wasn't done bouncing.

It exited the house, leaving a perfectly round hole in the stucco, crossed six-lane Tassajara Road, took out several tiles from the roof of a home on Bellevue Circle and finally slammed into the Gill family's beige Toyota Sienna minivan in a driveway on Springvale Drive.

That's where Jasbir Gill, 42, who had pulled up 10 minutes earlier with his 13-year-old son, Manvir, found the ball on the floorboards, with glass everywhere and an obliterated dashboard."

So...dude pulls up with kid and runs upstairs to all fall asleep within 10 minutes at 4:15 in the afternoon?????

wtf?

The fuck?! Who builds a bomb disposal range 700 yards ( less than 1/2 mile) from a residential area?!
Aren't these things usually miles away and isolated.

Quote:
One of the zany experiments staged by the "Mythbusters" television show nearly turned into a suburban tragedy Tuesday afternoon in Dublin when the crew fired a homemade cannon toward huge containers of water at the Alameda County Sheriff's Department bomb disposal range.
The cantaloupe-sized cannonball missed the water, tore through a cinder-block wall, skipped off a hillside and flew some 700 yards east, right into the Tassajara Creek neighborhood, where children were returning home from school at 4:15 p.m., authorities said.

"This isn't the first time projectiles in the area have hit homes. In 2007, a stray .223-caliber submachine gun bullet, apparently fired during a training exercise at Camp Parks Army base in Dublin, shattered the bedroom window of a San Ramon home."

Sounds like the neighborhood has experience with lawsuits

Sounds like the neighborhood should have a lawyer and contractor on speed dial.
RING: Hello Sam.
Sam: Spall, bullet, or bomb fragment this time?
Homeowner: None of the above. Cannon ball.
Sam: Oh, really - so they're going all Revolutionary War on you. I'll get the suit paperwork started ....

Oh and apparently Alec Baldwin moonlights as a Sgt in the CA police force.

In a way this reminds me of the .50 BMG rifle incident in Texas from years ago. A guy was at a range with his Barret when a round got away from him. The round ended up plunging through a motorhome and obliterating a woman's arm. The motorhome was parked at Texas Motor Speedway for a NASCAR race --- 4 miles(!) away from the range.
