Need a Benz scanner - April 15, 2009, 07:34 AM

Or at least that is what I think I need.

A good buddy at work was working on the radio in his daughter's '02 ML320. It wound up that the remote line going to the amp was not working. He hard wired that and put everything back together.

Now his SRS light is on. I've read that if you scan it, the light should go out if there isn't really a problem. Any MB tuners on here would know better.

He's found some Chinese box that will supposedly do this, but it's $200 and he's not sure if it will work.

I was hoping to hear from some people on here who know what they are talking about.

He might want to check voltage along the SRS circuit, the system is extremely sensitive to current spikes or drops, it's been known to set off the light. I've seen many use a connector fix where the buckle (female) connects to the rest of the system.

Also, ML across the all model years are notorious for having the passenger seat cushion throw the SRS light. The sensor is built in the foam cushion for the ML.

THese are just thoughts, not a tech but have worked with a few.

MB scanners are PCs with proprietary software, never seen a traditional scanner like the ones used for GM cars.

Just trying to help
