Need a computer fixed. - May 16, 2008, 01:54 AM

I have a Compaq presario laptop. The video card has taken a crap. I was told by compaq that the video card is part of the mother board and it will cost about $300 to fix it. I need to try to get it fixed a lot cheaper. I also have a dell laptop that I am trying to give to a friend of mine but I have to have a second laptop for work. so I need the compaq fixed before I can give her this dell. Does anybody have any compaq parts laying around? I dont remember the model number off the top of my head. I will post that up when i get to work tomorrow.

If you post the model number we can try to track you down a new mobo to install.

+1
If the video is integrated, you can't simply replace the VGA card. Going to need to swap out the mobo.

I bet he could pop in a stand alone card if he has the expansion spots.

Post up the model number, buy a used (or new) motherboard on ebay... or a parts computer. If you need any help with the installation of a new motherboard bring it over and give me a week to work on it.

That's a new one. A parts laptop will probaly cost half of that... plus you get spares... the only question is how long will those parts work.
