Need a divorce attorney - March 14, 2007, 12:16 PM

Gents and Ladies,

The title says it all - currently at this time I am still overseas but should be returning back to the states for a brief time in June.

I obviously am at a bit of a disadvantage here but I would greatly appreciate if anyone knows a decent divorce attorney in NOVA and wouldn't mind passing their information along.

OK if you've gotta do it then try to make it amicable somehow. For the kids -- look into making up a parenting agreement. Lawyers don't usually suggest it. I did it with my ex and even though everything was friendly all the way through if it ever goes south I have a document filed with the divorce decree in court that we can fall back on to make sure my daughter never gets caught in crossfire (so to speak.)

It's best if you can sit down and discuss how things are going to go and come to an arrangement on yer own... They can be a necessary evil if shit gets nasty .... but they can bleed you dry...

Absolutely agree that doing most of the agreement on your own is good. Even though I had a really friendly divorce my ex'es attorney kept coming back after wordsmithing the documents. I was really glad I had negotiated a flat rate in the beginning, and I'm hoping the ex got rooked just for picking an a--hole who wasted our time (I doubt he had negotiated a flat rate ahead of time.)

So that's another bit of advice -- get a flat rate if you can.
