Need a hand/wrist specialist - March 23, 2009, 10:43 AM

Can anyone recommend a good hand/wrist dr. in the area? Long story short... Never had hand problems while riding. Starting last summer, after about 30 minutes of riding, I can't squeeze the clutch anymore. My whole hand hurts. Not just a little bit, it's really painful. Sometimes i can use my pinky to pull it in, and it doesn't hurt as much, but I need to get this fixed. Already had an mri done, and he couldn't find anything "structurally" wrong. I didn't really care for him as a dr. and want a second opinion.

Went to Dr. Miller @ Town Center Ortho for my hand a couple of summers ago, he was great. The entire practice came highly recommended by quite a few people.

Not the gloves. I've tried different ones.

Thanks. I'll give them a call. And it's not too far from where I live.

Just an FYI about Town-center Orto.....I fractured my wrist last April. Went there, got bounced between two doctors....3 weeks later and the 3rd appointment, when the "wrist specialist" looked at it, he thought I should get pins put in....Then I told him it had been three weeks. He had no idea, I guess he didn't have time to look at my chart. I'm sure they are good but I was less than impressed. I didn't get pins and the wrist is doing great. I got a cast for a little more than a month, When it got taken off, I asked some specific questions and never got an answer, just the run around. I think he was mad I didn't get the pins. Do some research on the internet and educate yourself. My wife works with lots of doctors and some are good and some just go through the motions....cut and take the pay day and the co-pay. The staff was very nice though.

I used Dr. Khan at Countryside Ortho. He did my surgery on my wrist after my wreck. Did good job but his bedside manners were lacking. Very good staff! Would go with him again! http://countrysideortho.com/about/index.htm

+2 on Dr. Pournaras

I went to him for a neuro issue in my trigger finger. Great Doc! Also my wife is a Occupational Therapist (hands) and he is highly regarded in the Fairfax/NOVA area.

**EDIT**
Also, Dr. Theiss at Fairfax INOVA Hospital, highly regarded.

Sadly I think the arthritis in my throttle thumb may have me back in Dr Pounaras' office again soon.

Great guy, can't say enough good things about him. In fact I'm well acquainted with all three Docs in that office. Dr. Silvari did my spine surgery, and Dr Ain did my knees.
