Need a job? - December 10, 2009, 03:58 AM

The company is Key Point Government Solutions and the position is for someone to go around doing background checks for security clearances. It says that you have to live within 30 miles of Manassas, VA. It does say that your pay is based on how many interviews you give, so I am guessing this might be a good part time gig. If you can't get to the page via the link below, just go to their career section on their website.

Good Luck.

*EDIT*

L-3 Communications is also hiring a bunch of people for positions in NoVa.

I was tempted, but my work schedule would probably f things up a bit, then I saw 3 weeks of training required, and two of those are in CO.

Great if you had the time though.

This would be a big step up from finding people's myspace accounts. I'd say go for it!

Be careful. Choicepoint and other agencies that do this are getting sued.

It is being questioned about the outsourcing of hiring non officers to investigate people and the possible corruption involved, as in selling the data collected since it is not regulated.

Good call Rossi. After looking over the job description Keypoint makes it VERY clear that you are an independent contractor and not an employee. If something was to happen the independent contractor is 100% liable...

I don't really know much of anything about this stuff, but from what I understand is that the government has no other option but to contract this job to private companies because it simply can't handle the volume of applications. I think I read that the waitlist is some 400k people long or something and that it takes on average a year to get your clearance.

Again, that could be completely wrong -- I only know what I read on random websites so....

sounds like they are asking a little too much, especially having to travel to CO for 2 weeks unpaid, if it was more local it would be worth a shot.

if you are going in as an IC look into incorporating yourself as an s-Corp. Protects you from liability concerns and will allow you to claim an approximate sheit-ton on work related expenses -i.e. Your home office, company vehice, teles, etc. Most ICs go this route. Cheers and GL!

u sure u didn't mean LLC? S-corp needs shareholders and stock. lol u one person walkin around doin background checks...what stock u sellin? so you get some friends together who elect to be shareholders - cool...what stock you sellin?

An LLC can be one person, but not a S-corp.

you can claim all that stuff being a simple sole proprietor. <---that's the route most IC's go if the liability risk is low.

LLC's can still be peirced though - so ur not totally outta the woods. However an LLC can elect to be taxed as a sole prop, s-corp, partnership, or c-corp, but you have to meet the requirements.
