Need a pick up truckor truck/trailer - March 19, 2009, 07:31 AM

It looks like I am going to be buying a new bike tonight. However it is located north of Baltimore and it is calling for rain. I am going to try to head up there about 4 pm so that I can miss traffic on the way and than wait a hour or so and miss traffic on the way back. I was wondering if anybody had a truck/trailer or a pick-up truck with ramps that I can use to pick up the bike.
I looked into renting a Uhaul to move it but the smallest truck costs $.99 a mile plus $20 I need to get the bike back to the Falls Church area. Worst case I will just ride it. But not having insurance on it and plates and the rain doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside about the ride.

Thank you in advance

Dan

Find a trailer and we'll go get it.

Couple of thoughts....

If you can't haul it and decide to ride you can get a temp transportation tag from DMV. It's just sheet of paper you carry with you that makes yo legal. I think they cost $5.00

If you have insurance on another bike this one should be automatically covered for 24/48 hours (check w/your insirance co.) If you don't have a bike currently insured you could get the VIN and go ahead and insure it on line today even though you don't have the title in your hands. If for some reason you don't get the bike cancel the insurance on it tomorrow. Should cost mch at all.

I understand the thought process of riding it without a tag or insurance for one quick ride to get it home, but the risk/reward ratio ain't all that great.

but the 3 day transport tag from the DMV and print it out... then call the insurance company when you pay for the bike and have the title and add it... then RIDE HOME

If i'm home you could swing by my place to hang out till traffic dies down.

(I have tentative plans for tonight, might be making a craigslist purchase) but i think i should be home around then - possibly won't be i wont know more till seller contacts me back)

I live in Arnold MD now, which is south of Bmore. If you left from my place you'd take 50west/495 back to VA which after 6-7 isnt too bad traffic wise.

I believe i can see the future;
because everyday i repeat the
same routine.
