Need practice painting something? - September 28, 2008, 10:26 PM

I'm building a new computer desk out of the front end of a 1949 Ford Truck and i'm going to need it painted. I do not need it perfect nor do i want it perfect. I prefer the rough original look. I haven't decided on a color but it will most likely be a flatish primary color or gray.
So anyone want to practice painting on it? I'll buy the paint. If you mess it up i'll just rattle can it later. Yes i actually plan on putting this in my livingroom.

You gonna sand it down first?

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, itís like thisÖA herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

So which came first, the desk idea or the front end of the truck?

Very cool idea. Can't wait to see how it ends up.

You could also cut some of the material away to lighten it up.

DirtyR6, you got a deal. I need to learn to paint.

I still have some work to do to it and i will sand it down for sure. I welded 2 patch panels into it already. I have the headlight buckets and plan to have them operational, only on 6V tho so they don't blind me/others. I also plan to put shelves in the wheel wells to display car related books or other stuff.

The whole thing isn't that heavy actually. The front end comes off the truck in one piece and it has a cross member that holds it all together.
I got the truck from a friend as a parts truck for another truck i owned. The engine was locked up and the cab shot. I started stripping it and noticed it looked like a desk. I cut off 6 bolts and lifted the front end right off the frame.

Someday I need to paint my pimp ride. 1964 Cadillac Limo.
