Need some IT help - SD card - February 3, 2013, 04:57 PM

So I got this PITA 2gb SD card. I guess I formatted it for use with Nook Manager or Calibre or something. Anyways, when I plug it in, it shows only like 100 MB free and an unallocated spot. I tried formatting the mofo, tried creating a partition on the unallocated space, but no matter what when I plug it in it only recgonizes the 100mb partition. Even downloaded Partition Magic and some other EASUS apps.

Anyone got a clue how I can nuke the whole thing like it was brand new?

Was it ever 2GB? Or is it just some cheap-ass Chinese crap?

You used disk management? You need to delete the 100mb volume and then "shrink" the volume of the entire capacity, allowing you to format the card.

Just delete the 100mb partition and select shrink on the unallocated volume using disk management.

My honest answer:

Micro Center - Computers, Electronics, Computer Parts, Networking, Gaming, Software, and more!

Samsung High Speed 8GB Class 4 Micro Secure Digital High Capacity (microSDHC) Flash Media Card MB-MS8GB/AM MB-MS8GB/AM - Micro Center

just replace it for like $10 and quadruple your space (unless it's for some older device that won't support SDHC...

But agree with everyone else, if in windows Disk management you should be able to right-click and delete all partitions, then right click and create on new 2GB one.
Or same in any of the partition tools mentioned.

Ok I tired all the suggestions and nothing took. I guess this card is an old POS. Bought an 8gb at BB for like $10. Thanks anyways.

Got a new problem though...1tb Mybook HDD fell and usb port broken. Can I swap into a new enclosure and call it a day?

you tried formatting in linux??

yeah you can swap enclosures.. the HD may have some weird adapter for the wd enclosure so you will have to remove that.
