neighbors and their pet neglect: getting fed up - May 10, 2013, 03:47 PM

so i have a few neighbors who have dogs. cool. however, when it's after 10pm or even well into the early am hours, some of these folks leave their dogs outside as they bark non stop for hours. how their next door neighbors put up with it, i'll never know. my back yard backs up to theirs, and both of these pet owners happen to be not directly behind me.

lately though, the one to the left has been leaving their dog in a cage on the back patio. this cage is so small, i don't think the dog can stand up without hitting it's head and ass on the cage at the same time. it's pretty cruel imo. i noticed this situation yesterday as the dog was yelping pretty much non stop. 4 hours later, poor guy was still there. i forgot to look this morning, but once again he is in there now.

here's the part that really pisses me off -- they have a chain link fence around the back yard! why they don't just let the dog be in the back yard is beyond me. at this point, i am ready to call animal control or the humane society on their asses. i hate to do it, but that poor animal deserves better.

this isn't the best neighborhood, so i'm not trying to go knock on their door and confront them about it as i feel it would cause a confrontation. not only that, i don't need any animosity aimed at this house as it's my roommate's place. so i guess that leaves me to contact someone else who cares and will confront the situation. i've not had to do anything like this in a long time, but i really think this is necessary.

i hate filing complaints, and i rather not give my info. anybody familiar with this type of situation or have any suggestions? i really am fed up with seeing this poor dog penned up in too small of a cage, probably sitting in it's own urine. not to mention that it's been raining on and off.

some people just effing suck...

Liberate the dogs, like doggy auschwitz

I had a similar situation where I'm at, and it took several calls to our local animal control. Which in our case was part of the sheriffs department

Make sure to time your calls, so that when they show up to check, the dogs are still going nuts

Call animal control, they usually warn them and give the person an opportunity to rectify the situation. They check again and if it isn't the same then the dog could get removed from the home.

Take a pic, make the call to AC

Get mucho respect and sleep easy at night

it's really that easy, the dog (and neighbors) will thank you

This.
An animal control call can be anonymous as well, so no need to worry about retribution.

Agreed that some action is necessary. How would you feel being held in a tiny crate for hours on end? I don't think anyone would enjoy it. Good on you for at least raising the issue and taking the preliminary steps. Personally, I hope you contact the appropriate department of organization who can at least perform a welfare check.

Give me their address and I will call if you would rather not. Idgaf dog needs at least shade water and a crate large enough to lay down in and turn around comfortably.

In VA depending on the county AC only responds during business hours, after that the calls go to the Sheriff or Police. Also check your county noise ordinances and if the dogs are barking during quiet time then that call should go to the cops (non-emergency line) and not AC.
