NY Subway Death - Bystanders Let Man Die - December 4, 2012, 11:04 PM

I don't normally post stuff like this but this shyt is disgusting. I can't believe that someone can snap a picture of this guy as the train is about to hit him but can't help him out of the tracks. Damn shame.

Yep... Goddamn wannabe photographers while he was clinging. No one tried shit.

On a related note, we really should do something to keep these subways out of the hands of dangerous criminals

I'll bet that a new law shall arise within 5 years stating that a person choosing to film/photograph instead of helping to prevent injury shall be convicted as an accessory.

Despicable. Photographer should be charged as accessory to murder.

Last episode of Seinfeld anyone?

Unless I'm armed, I'm not intervening in a dispute next to the train tracks. I'm not going to risk getting shoved over the edge myself. If I am armed, I'm going to be shouting orders from several feet away.

Is there a link to more of the video? I don't know how much time elapsed between the push and impact. Did the suspect flee the scene before the train got there, giving people time to help with less risk to themselves?

Why didn't you give a dollar? You could have saved that kid in Africa from starving to death yesterday?

No, as a bystander, you have no legal obligation to jump in and save someone's life. A moral obligation, perhaps, but that's it.

Apparently, the victim was unemployed and drunk, so people probably just thought it was two bums fighting and didn't want to get involved. Homeless people have "subhuman" status among society. Their lives are worth a little less to the collective.

I definitely would've pulled the old man out of there. It would have been epic.

Sickening that no one helped. The other onlookers are almost as guilty as the photog. I can imagine some of them being frozen in the moment and not ready to spring into action, but that shutter douche used his impulse for a selfish action.

It looked like an exceedingly easy task to pull that man out of the path of that train. His entire upper torso was above the platform level, so it's not like you had to lean over the ledge and try grasping at his hands. Bro, do you even lift?!

And yes this is horrible but how many people in this day and age run when shit happens and how many help? People that have the training yes would and should help but most people do not know how to confront their own panic of flight and really help out. And for those that say I would have helped really would you? Have you ever been in a situation of fight or flight and stayed to fight? How many of us on here would have the nerve to try to pull him up knowing that you could get pulled in front of that train also?

Photographer is a freelancer and says he was trying to use his flash to signal the oncoming train. <roll eyes>
The spineless scum knew his photographs were going to fetch him tens of thousands if the victim was hit, so why stop shooting?

The assailant was caught early this morning and is being detained, although I doubt they can make anything outside of a felony assault charge stick.

Skinny old Asian man too. One good yank and he would have come flying out of that pit. Shame...

Saving lives is exhilarating. I had the honor once to jump in when someone was in trouble. It's quite a thrill to calmly do what needs to be done while everyone else around you freezes in panic and apathy. You focus like a laser on that person, with seconds to spare before their life is extinguished forever. To hear the joyful reaction of all those panicked bystanders when that doomed person is pulled from the brink of death is life affirming. You feel like a God, with the power of life and death in your hands.

I see why firefighters and others who provide emergency services do what they do.
