Oil Spill is Helping Gulf Coast Economy! - June 25, 2010, 08:34 AM

BP = FGGTS.

BP's Internal Mag Discovers Oil Spill Helped Gulf Coast Economy

According to BP's in-house online magazine, Planet BP, there is a silver lining in the giant puddle of oil they caused to spew all over the Gulf of Mexico. That's right, the spill, far from devastating the local economy, is causing it to prosper!

In an "article" with the byline "BP Reporter," the rag said:
“Much of the region’s [nonfishing boat] businesses — particularly the hotels — have been prospering because so many people have come here from BP and other oil emergency response teams... ”
Jeenkies! It's like BP launched its own stimulus package to help the embattled Gulf economy. Thanks BP!

Talk about fucking spin.
These guys must be sniffing coke to see a silver lining in all this.
I hope now that they wrote this, the state of Louisiana and the effected Parishes sue them for libel.

How about we call it the bush-Obama recession...or does the fact US companies have more cash on hand now than at any point in history, but are unwilling to hire because obama's policies are creating so much financial and regulatory uncertainty that it's a bad business decision to do so? If you don't know what business is gonna be like a year from now, and regulations make it expensive to layoff people if it doesn't turn around, why hire?

Oh, and the housing/mortgage regulations and lending pushes that caused this were enacted under Clinton.

The current massive deficit spending and tax policies under this administration are making recovery difficult.

Also, I love how people say (not in this thread, but it's common) "deficits under bush"...when the spending and taxation power lies SOLELY in congress...which has the same majority composition now as it did since 2006...so...

Yes but Bush ran on a platform that he was going to change this but he did exactly the opposite and started promoting it even more!

If people go back a little longer than 10 years...they can see that all of the bank/financial DEregulation started with the Regan administration.

The banking deregulation wasn't THE primary problem, without high risk mortgages with Fannie/Freddie backing, the mortgage backed security derivatives wouldn't exist (or at least, wouldn't be that interesting as an investment)...and those would exist without loaning money to people who couldn't afford it.
I couldn't afford a house then, so I didn't buy, and now I'm getting taxed to shit by this congress, lead by this administration to pay for everyone who made bad decisions? F THAT!

You proceed without full facts...

The controllers of the purse strings, the House of Representatives, was controlled by liberals during the Carter, Reagan, and Bush (sr) administrations as well as the first two years of the Clinton administration. During those times, the Senate as well was primarily controlled by liberals, with occasional forays into conservative control.

Fiscally responsible conservatives came into control of both Congressional houses in 1994 and stayed there up until about 1998.

That's when the neo-Cons started to flow in... and they took over in 2000, spending irresponsibly on all kinds of stuff... until 2006 when the liberals grabbed power again.

Now, all we have are people who are more than happy to spend as much as possible, complaining that it's excessive only when it's not spent how they want it done.

And if you want to really go back a bit, the last President to actually have a budget surplus... and I don't refer to these bullshit "projected" surpluses we hear about today... was Richard Nixon in 1969.

"They who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- B. Franklin

Every politician should serve two terms... one in office followed immediately by an equal or longer-length one in jail... except in New Jersey where jail time is a pre-requisite to holding office.
