Post One of the coolest CPU coolers EVER.. - November 7, 2007, 05:51 PM

http://www.dvhardware.net/review97_blueorb-fx.html

My newest addition to my comp. Quiet as hell, cools my overclocked 3.0 P4 Processor(now @ 3.45) down very effectively. Everything on my computer is overclocked, by fan cooling and runs balls out smooth.

This CPU cooler displays CPU temp, and sound db's within the fan itself.
Check out the youtube video that shows it in action.

Dude, get the Zalman 9500/9700. It's so much better.

Heat pipe + tower + 92mm fan = Win.

Apparently that site didn't think it was all that great:

I have mixed feelings about the ThermalTake Blue Orb FX - the looks are superb and the lightshow impressed me but unfortunately the cooling performance is only mediocre, there's still room for improvement. At stock clockspeeds this HSF still performs quite decent but when you start overclocking load temperatures rise too high. Additionally, there's also the problem that the fan isn't really that silent. The heatsink is huge and I expected it would at least be a bit more silent than the stock cooler but it wasn't.

If you're a heavy overclocker I don't recommend this fan, but if you're just looking for a cool processor cooler to improve the looks and WOW-factor of your casemod you could consider the BlueOrb FX.

Works GREAT for me, I have been able to take my processor up to 3.7 gig stable, at 35 degrees C, with about 27 db of sound. I have always bought Thermaltake over Zalman.. Had a close friend lose his $5500 system do to a Zalman water cooling system. POS IMO.

When I built my monster gaming machine I used:

I wanted the best performance from everything, the only thing I overclocked was my two 7800 GT's. This was 2 years ago, so way too much has changed. I just really liked how quite the box was .

I miss my nerd days.

My high school science experiment was pretty much 'how much can you overclock with proper cooling'. Back when the AMD K6-2 line had a heat transfer plate over top its processors so there was nothing exposed. I got a PVC pipe cap, cut off the square bolt top, tapped two holes and mounted it to the CPU then with a bucket and a fish tank pump water cooled my CPU. On my major eBoner days I'd just dump a bunch of ice into the water bucket.

The worst cooling situation ever was being at a LAN one winter and running out of space, about 10 of us had to set up on the porch outside. Hooray for that. Wide open case never got warmer than like ~60F at the CPU. I had to play counterstrike with gloves
