TD Ameritrade - my main online broker. Tons of account type options. Good website interface, good research tools, cost per trade can be haggled down if you are an active trader. Good extended hours trading. Good phone support. Speed of trade execution is great and to date flawless. Funds from trading don't get held in limbo for as long as some other brokers (Only important if you are moving in and out of stocks or transfering funds regularly.)

Optionhouse - Cheaper trades, website interface not great. Crappy extended hours trading. Sometimes options or stock trade execution sucks. I do like of a couple of their options research tools so I keep a balance with them and occasionally trade there. But i usually just use the tools for research and then switch to my TD Ameritrade account to execute trades.

ING: Don't use them but my sister does. She seems to like working with them a lot. Don't know much about it.

looking to buy FB?

i use Scottrade. no complaints. it's relatively cheap at $7 per trade. they give you good charts and data. you can also bank with them too.

if you are looking for the long term as buying and holding it; check out Sharebuilder. they only charge $4, but i have not used them.

I use them and agree with the buy and hold part. If you planning buying and selling in shirt periods of time they aren't the most economical option. SB is very easy to use. If you do choose to use them, search around for a promo code so you can get some "free" trading money.

Ive used Etrade for a few years. When I was actively trading I had no complaints.

I signed up with two recently, sccottrade and tradeking. Scottrade is$7/trade, and tradeking is $5/trade. So far scottrade has been easier to deal with. It took nearly a week and a half to get my TK account to get set up with cleared funds. Scottrade was like two hours, plus they have local branches if you need them.

Right now I'm just getting my feet wet, I use a chunk of every check to buy stock in companies that are currently down, but I know that in the long term they will probably be alright.

I also downloaded the msnbc app on the iPad and have it running continuously at work, to keep an eye on things, it's very addictive.

Hopefully more people will post and provide better ideas.

Ameritrade is what I use.

I've begun looking at some of Collective2's trading systems as well.

I have used E-trade and TDAmeritrade.

TDAmeritrade is what I would recommend for all the reasons Windblown mentioned.

Tradeking.

$5 limit orders.

I used to be with predecessors of TD Ameritrade, but with each buyout, they kept raising the prices and hidden fees.

I'm surprised Etrade is still in business. People used to complain about them all day long for crap executions and higher fees.

I have a Scottrade acct and a Vanguard brokerage acct. With the VG account, trading VG ETF's, your trades are free.
