:-P anyone know of any google bombing resources and tips? - March 13, 2012, 12:01 PM

Not looking to do anything illegal or viral.
Just looking at ways to get initial users for some social networking / dating sites I'm getting ready to fire up.. Ya, maybe google bombing is a little low, but its really hard to get any kind of critical mass of users without resorting to spamming which is hella more obnoxious..

Thx for any input..

Getting a shitload of crap links overnight is a great way to get your sites sandboxed.

No idea what you mean by 'google bombing'. If you want to rank for any semi-competitive word, it will take months and lots of SEO work. For competitive words, it will take years and lots of $$$ on top of that.

"google bombing" is a common industry term similar to "spamdexing". Hell I even made an educational video about it for the U.S. Courts system 2 years ago at their request (its how *I* learned the term). I understand its effects and basically how its done, however I never looked to actually doing the link generation itself and yes, most google bombing is done for illicit reasons.

It also doesn't have to be done blatantly. It can be done relatively slowly over a span of time and the act itself is not illegal (lol. that I know of) when the linked to content is not of a malicious nature.

lol.. I heard once that there were services in India to perform the task of spreading links around the web. Seems its easier and cheaper to hire a bunch of people at 20 cents an hour to do it than to try and develop sophisticated systems that are easily countered.

Anyway.. not trying to be a horrible spammer type person. just looking at options to try and get some sites going without resorting to email spamming.

Take a look at what happened to JC Penny (I believe) who google bombed and they found out and had their priorities yanked.

Heres the link:

If Google sees a ton of crap links from crap unrelated sites to new sites, you will get sandboxed almost certainly. This is 2012. Even before Panda update this technique was on its death bed.

If you want to get ranked for semi-competitive keywords, your best option is to create content that gets linked naturally. This is by far the easiest way - and it's not easy at all.

After that, you can go after paid links or sponsored posts, etc. This will be costly, but that's the only way people rank in Google for competitive terms in competitive industries these days. The less money in in the industry, the less competition, the easier it will be to rank.

It really depends on what keywords you are targeting in what industry, but don't expect easy or quick results - and don't trust anyone promising such and charging peanuts. Ranking on Google is not what it used to be.

I am not planning to do anything yet.
Just gathering info so I can make a reasonable plan.

What kind of site, what kind of industry?

Also, have you ever outsourced to India before? I wouldn't recommend it for tasks that can not be defined very clearly for someone to follow step by step...

Kind of sites: dating/social net/language exchange...

It is critical to get that initial, basic set of users or you don't have a site. I can do advertising and white hat SEO no problem.. Just looking at all avenues before deciding any plans.

Dev/support outsourcing is different than just paying some monkeys to log in to websites and manually create blog posts.. Nor did I plan to do any "outsourcing" (of any nature). It was just a comment about something I had read once. A very LOW tech solution to a high tech problem.. lol..
