Thumbs down Pat Robertson: "Haiti Cursed by "Pact To The Devil" - January 14, 2010, 09:11 AM

Is it just me, or is there some retardation going on here? Is Pat Robertson a Televangelist for the Christian Right, or a Shock Jock?!?!

Pat Robertson: Haiti 'Cursed' By 'Pact To The Devil' (VIDEO)

Huffington Post | Danny Shea First Posted: 01-13-10 02:45 PM | Updated: 01-14-10 01:11 AM

Televangelist Pat Robertson said Wednesday that earthquake-ravaged Haiti has been "cursed" by a "pact to the devil."
"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," he said on Christian Broadcasting Network's "The 700 Club." "They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you'll get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal."
Robertson said that "ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other" and he contrasted Haiti with its neighbor, the Dominican Republic.
"That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle; on the one side is Haiti on the other is the Dominican Republic," he said. "Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable."

Later that evening, Raymond Joseph, Haitian Ambassador to the U.S., began his appearance on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show by shaming Robertson and pointing out that Haiti's freedom led to freedom across Latin America. And they weren't they only beneficiaries from those historic events. "The U.S. was able to gain the Louisianna Territory for $15 million," Joseph added. "That's three cents an acre. That's 13 states west of the Mississippi that the Haitian slaves' revolt in Haiti provided America."

"Freedom of Speech" (the ability to say just about anything) has really screwed up some American's heads~ Somebody should kick Pat Robertson in the ass for saying that the Dominican Republic is "prosperous, healthy..." and that Haiti has been cursed by a pact to the devil...

Morons & religion go hand in hand all too often. Pat Robertson is a perfect example.

I'm going to say this, and a lot of you will probably not like it. But why are we responding so fast with Haiti, yet so slowly when shit hits our own shores (Katrina)?

I think because of the shit storm Katrina made global media wise... I mean they still talk about that and it was in 2005.

So this one was of Epic Proportions so people jump super fast.
I still think alot of people want to shine more than genuinely want to heart felt help.

but thats just my opinion...

It's sort like when someone crash bad and a million people show up to the hospital. Some are genuine...while others know it will be a social outlet and a way to say I was there.... shit happens all the time, and in all walks of life.

It seems to me that during Katrina, the US Gov simply got it all wrong... The poor performance, highlighted by the Media really put the critical parties on notice not to screw up so badly the next time. As a result, the US Gov and associated organizations are careful not to goof.

Also, the characteristics of the catastrophies are different. During Katrina, the weather/water/etc. caused mounting damage & difficulty over the course of 3 days or so, with the ugly aftermath. During this Earthquake in Haiti, the event's damage occured in the course of a minute or so...

Pat Robertson used money raised to help victims of the Rwandan genocide (called Operation Blessing) to fund the transport of mining equipment for some diamond mines that he owns.

Kinda douchey.
