Man loses part of finger in iPad theft

updated 1:03 p.m. ET, Tues., April 20, 2010

DENVER - A man is missing his new iPad and part of his pinky finger after a robbery at a Denver shopping mall.
Fifty-nine-year-old Bill Jordan says he just purchased Apple's latest must-have item at Cherry Creek Mall on Thursday and was near the parking garage when a thief grabbed the bag tied around Jordan's hand.
He says the bag wouldn't come off and the thief yanked it so hard that it stripped part of Jordan's pinky down to the bone. Doctors later amputated part of the finger.
Jordan had purchased the tablet computer for a friend in Canada. Denver police were still searching for the culprit Tuesday.

That part of Denver is pretty gay due to the large thug/ yuppie crowd. There are strip clubs blocks away from that high end mall.

Poor guy got ripped off twice!

Until Apple fixes serious flaws in how their IPad handles DHCP leases folks are going to find less and less places they are allowed to use them. They're getting banned at some Universities here in the states now.

You cannot enter the country of Israel with them..like 100 ipads already confiscated at the border. Apparently they are afraid the wifi freq will be overloaded since it is not the standard freq used abroad. They'll be okay once the European version is released

Welcome to Israel..hand over that gadget..

JERUSALEM—Israel this week has been blocking travelers from bringing Apple Inc.'s new iPad into the country saying the device's wireless technology threatens to create interference with other products, a move that has puzzled people both in Israel and Silicon Valley.

Princeton university is banning as well as GW:

Apple needs to shore up DHCP renewal rates...

basically the iPad hangs on to the temp addresses too long, usually these are cycled frequently (every couple of hours) . Apparently the iPad will hold it well past 6 hours and thus f's up network traffic when they try to re-assign the address

Ipad is taking up too much Bandwidth. There is a problem with Ipads crashing Free Wifi services due to Bandwidth overload. Companies are now saying they are going to have to charge everyone to use Wifi if this problem is not addressed.
Most ISP's charge after a certain bandwidth threshold is reached. Businesses are no different.
Airports are experiencing this problem as well and some are debating suspending their free service until a solution is reached.

to be more specific, the flaw is when the iPad goes to sleep. It has no problem releasing the ip address as it is supposed to if is awake, but if it is in sleep mode it doesn't release it. so another machine gets the same ip, and when the iPad wakes up, there are two devices with the same ip.

thats just stupid if people didnt think all these devices being sold that use wifi..3G, etc wouldnt catch up to them as apple and others sell freaking millions of the devices..
