I usually use firefox. But, my internet exp[lorer keeps opening up with a couple of popup ads. I tried ad aware and it helped a litttle but some arte still there. Theres one file that it says cant be quaranteened. I think it is "sys32" (probably not the right name but close). Any suggestions on other programs?

Also get a good software firewall program. I have the Norton firewall. I never get any popups unless I turn it off, even then I don't get many. I also run Microsoft's beta ad aware program and spybot along with Norton's anti virus software. I belive you can get Norton's anti-virus and firewall for like $50-70 at best buy. Also go into ad remove programs and make sure to delete any programs that might look like advertising programs. These usually give you some pop ups.

ctrl alt and delete for temp fixes. shut down programs that done look familiar like... absalfj.exe or justsched.exe or point32.exe or some dll fake programs like rundll32.exe..

start / run / msconfig / startup / and remove all the programs / viruses /spyware you dont want starting up on your computer...

run HIJACK THIS, SPYBOT, ADAWARE, CWSSHREDDER. in your safe mode.
delete cookies, cache, they like to hide there...
most of your viruses you find.. will start up in your sys32 folder...

for those of you who want to disbale IE but know you cant unistall it...
i created a nice little fix for that.
but be aware, some programs wont work. IE: msnmgr

start / control panel / internet options / connections / lan settings

then check the box for " Use proxy server for your lan.. enter a fake port and adress.. ie: host: alsdfkjsald port: 99

When I run my ad aware prog, I guess there are different levels of security. I think they are cookies but theres a lot of them but it says that the threat level is 0. Should I quaranteen those too?

You cheap bastard!! The internet isn't free, althought I still see no "Premier Member" under your name either Ebeneezer

Seriously. I have never used Firefox. I have Internet Explorer on my home computers, but Netscape at work. The Netscape seems to really block the pop ups.

Anybody here ever used all 3 and could give a quick comparison review?

f8 when your computer boots brings you into safe mode.
right before the POST..
when your computer starts to recognize your drives cd / hd start pressing f8 directly after that.

Netscape / Firefox , IMO they are basically the same. same shell, different tools.
From what i'm seeing at work. netscape isnt as user friendly as Firefox.
IE from a hackers point of view has alot of vulnerbilities. they are tons of ways to get into your sys via IE.
but that also goes for XP and WM7+(windows media player)
imo most of the exploits viruses are writen for IE because its the most used.
Firefox / mozilla / netscape are built on security. they thrive to be better than IE.
Netscape is used more in corps than a home basis.
firefox has a built in pop up blocker and irc chat por ejemplo.
just to name a few tools that come with the package that dont need to be paid for or downloaded extra.

the newest norton antivirus now has the spyware blocking, cleaning feature. My parents machine was loaded with spyware. I had spybot and adaware running on it. The norton cleaned up the machine better after running it in safe mode.
