Post your knives... - July 23, 2006, 07:28 PM

I searched for knife, knives, Benchmade, CRKT and found nothing.

Post up your favorite work knives or personal carry knives......yes I'm bored.

I just got this the other day:

http://www.crkt.com/dsrtcrsr.html

I also have a Buck Alpha Hunter.

CRKT simple yet functional:

although, the handle on Guz's knife wins hands down-or should I say up?

I have been using Emerson knives for years and saw this one last year. Best knife I have ever used!

Funky topic.

I've got this. The display case, the original box/receipt for each knife, and a big ole smile every time I go in the attic. Every knife has a serial number and they were actually hand forged in this country back in the 70s.

The one folding knife must weigh 2 lbs.

Ben which one is your favorite? Why?

I like the BMs but they are friggin pricey for me. I couldn't fathom losing a $150 knife!

Here's the deal with most steel, and why the difference between knives is so steep. Different kinds of steel have varying carbon and chrome in them, this will decide thier sharpness and ability to hold an edge vs. thier rust and stain resistance. Some steels do one well but not the other, some steels are so created that they are rust resistant while still holding an excellent edge.

Benchmade makes a superior blade in my mind, the steel is excellent (I used to know all the names of the different steels, the guys at Chesapeak Knife and tool are fanactics go talk to them). Kershaw makes an Ok blade, dulls quickly and takes on rust. Smith and wesson actually makes a badass blade, thing has been sharp for years. CRKT I am not impressed with, they are mediochre in my mind.

With knives you pay for what you get, the build of the knife and the quality of the steel. A $150 kershaw or CRKT will invariably be a decent blade, all benchmades are solid, consistently, I've owned well over 15 of them (I used to collect them, its expensive.)

Benchmade is the only way to go. Ebay has benchmades for less than $50 that will last you years. Thats my recommendation on a good "keeper" pocket knife. The griptillian is an awesome knife, BIN is $60, less in auction.
