Post your most ridiculous government (US or otherwise) stories here - October 7, 2013, 04:41 AM

The Government shut down has brought down the Amber Alert website.

Seems a bit odd that the domain is paid for yearly:

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/unavailable/

The United Nations has selected Iran to serve in a senior role on its Committee on Disarmament and International Security, an international body that deals with major global security issues.

Seems pretty smart.

I thought this quote was funny:

“I’m just surprised that the UN never got around to hiring Michael Jackson to work in its daycare center,” said former Pentagon advisor Michael Rubin. “This seems about as good an idea.”

The site is used to describe the federal funding for the Amber Alert program, according to the Justice Department, and its shuttering does not mean the federal participation in the program itself has been affected by the partial closure of the federal government.

“Amber alerts are uninterrupted. They get issued by states and counties, which do notifications to media, on Twitter, highway signs, etc,” the Justice Department officials said. “The .gov site is informational, not the law enforcement tool.”

I think this story is stupid. Plus the one with the Washington Sailing Marina being closed.

I thought the supreme court upheld the ruling on obamacare. And now the federal government has no budget approval and shuts down because house republicans didn't want it to go into effect.

The second part of that is what seems out of line. That kind of shit shouldn't be possible, but hey, here we are.

thousands of americans taping into savings this week are certainly getting tired of the stains from having to sit with their thumbs up their asses waiting on this bullshit to be resolved

naaaaaah, lets just wait until we can get to the debt ceiling decision, and fuck ourselves over even further. What a joke

So is the Yucca Mountain Act of 1987, yet Harry Reid has been blocking that one.

So is a whole bunch of immigration and naturalization law, but the President is refusing to enforce them.

There's a difference between obstructing one law and shutting down the entire government because you're opposed to one law, especially when the shutdown doesn't even impact the law you're opposed to. It's an unreasonable amount of collateral damage and quite frankly, a poor political strategy. The dems know it, the old republican leadership knows it, but the tea party folks are just delusion. They are destroying the Republican party from within, which is unfortunate, because there needs to be a credible counterpoint to the dems or we're going to end up in fiscal ruin.

But to claim, "Obamacare is the law of the land," and then go ahead and do things like that is hypocritical.

Summary: they're all liars and all need to go.

America has been tapping into it's debt for decades like those Americans tapping into savings... ObamaCare will only exacerbate that. That's kind of the entire issue is that there is no indication it's going to improve our economic condition.

The house controls the purse strings that was a purposeful division of powers so that the President wouldn't become a King. Daddy can OK Jr's brand new mustang all day long and even clear it with mom and grandpa but the House (Bank) must fund it, according to the Constitution. If the bank says it's too high risk then all the permission in the world won't matter... from Obama or the Supreme Court.

The fact is that the House has funded the Federal Government, and chose to NOT fund a program that's been OK'ed by dad. That's the banks prerogative. The Senate is then rejecting ANY funding unless that funding also funds ObamaCare and is blaming the House who already appropriated funds for all of us to go back to work.

Forbes had a poll recently that showed over 66% of Americans either want the AHA repealed, defunded, or reworked because it's half baked. They say "only" a third want the law pulled back, but what about the 33% who think it wont work....

Fact is a left leaning news source posts metrics that show that two out of three of us don't have confidence in this law. Why is this even a question for the Senate. Fund the Government like the House is trying too, rework ObamaCare which is months late, poorly set up (the website got wrecked), poorly understood, and poorly defined. The Dems in the Senate are the one's killing the Federal money.
