Potomac Flight - Formation of WW2 Aircraft will fly overhead Saturday morning 10/11 - October 10, 2014, 06:58 PM

UPDATED: WWII aircraft flight over Northern Virginia postponed - INSIDENOVA.COM: Headlines

Quote:
A plan to fly a large collection of World War II aircraft over the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery has been postponed until Saturday.
It’s called the Potomac Flight, and it will involve about 30 planes flying in restricted airspace over the Washington area to honor the nation’s veterans. The “once in a lifetime” event kicks off the 15th Annual Culpeper Air Fest this weekend, according to a news release.
The flight was delayed, and then canceled, Friday due to rain. But Potomac Flight aircraft plan to Culpeper Regional Airport late Saturday morning and fly in formation along the Potomac River through Northern Virginia, soaring over Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon around 11:55 a.m.
The flight route will take the formation first near Manassas, Woodbridge, Clinton, Md., Oxon Hill, Md., and Andrews Air Force Base, and then over the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery. The formation will then begin its return to Culpeper as it flies over Arlington, Annandale, Burke and Manassas.
Aircraft in the formation will include a B-25 bomber, a P-51 Mustang and approximately 28 T-6 Texans. During the flyover, you may see “performance smoke” used as part of the demonstration.
The flight was coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Defense and the Transportation Security Agency.

Not looking good for Saturday either. But if the weather clears I'll likely be going to Gravelly Pt to watch.

I just got to the Air Force memorial and was told by the guard that they are now shooting for 3 o'clock.

I joined the crowd at the Air Force Memorial (thank you Stuckonstupid for the idea). This is what I managed to get with my 18-270mm zoom.

One plane flew almost directly over the AF Memorial with smoke trail.

I don't see the B-25? I'm sure pictures don't do them justice. Did they sound any louder than normal piston engined aircraft?

The B-25 was absent. I guess that was the original plan for Friday, but I counted 24 planes today, 6 fewer than expected.
