Unprofessional rather... Funny, when you first read it, but horrible for the actual person having to go through with the ordeal. Guess thats why she got so much $$$

Lawyers for a woman who was spanked in front of her co-workers as part of what her employer said was a camaraderie-building exercise asked a jury Wednesday for at least $1.2 million for the humiliation she claimed to have suffered.
Janet Orlando, 53, quit her job at the home-security company Alarm One in Fresno and sued, alleging discrimination, assault, battery and infliction of emotional distress.
Employees were paddled with rival companies' yard signs as part of a contest that pitted sales teams against each other, according to court documents. The winners poked fun at the losers, throwing pies at them, feeding them baby food, making them wear diapers and swatting their buttocks.
"No reasonable middle-aged woman would want to be put up there before a group of young men, turned around to show her buttocks, get spanked and called abusive names, and told it was to increase sales and motivate employees," her lawyer, Nicholas "Butch" Wagner, said in his closing argument.
Lawyers for Alarm One, an Anaheim-based, 300-employee company, said the spankings were part of a voluntary program to build camaraderie and were not discriminatory because they were given to both male and female workers.
Alarm One officials ceased the practice in 2004, the year Orlando sued, after another employee complained of being injured, according to court records. (AP)

i saw that in Express this morning and literally laughed out loud. The guy sitting next to me looked at me funny so I pointed out the blurb and then we both had a good laugh. How a supervisor could think that pies in the face, spanking, name calling, etc could build camraderie is beyond me.

I think its crap, it happened to all the employees, 1.2 million is crap. I can see maybe just maybe a tiny payout, 1 or 2 years of severance or somethin.

not only that, but in college you know what you are getting yourself into when pledging. Not the same expectation when you enter the workforce. I can't believe nobody else complained. The only joke I've ever had played on me was when i was 19 or so and my boss brought me into a room w/ all the other employees and handed me a plastic pee cup and told me they'd need a sample for drug testing right then... and they needed witnesses due to new state regulations. I stood there w/ a blank look on my face for about 30 seconds before everyone started cracking up.

I found nothing but this to be funny. I'm not siding with her at all in the matter, I think that manager was a dumbass for even attempting this stunt. But the lawyer's name, that takes the cake.

Uh, yes, I'd like to be represented as Nicholas *finger quote* Butch *finger quote* Wagner.

Fru,
They claimed it was optional, but of course they would say that. Plus the pressure to conform in an org... still 1.2 million
