Are you asking about Front Projection or Rear Projection?

Horrible picture in well-lit rooms.

Most older units lack progressive resolution.

Positive side is that most people will give them away for free if you pick them up at your own expense.

Newer projects (dlp) are a waste when you can pick up 60" LCD's for under $1k.

Just get a projector and mount it on the ceiling. Throw it on a white wall and call it a day. They're fairly cheap and can do HD.

I have an Epson 8350 set up in the basement right now. Has a couple of couches, and a pool table behind them, with a full kitchen off to the side. It's great room for entertaining, can see picture from pretty much every angle. Picture was much better once I got the screen.

Picture on my LG Led tv is better quality. But there is nothing like watching a football game with life size players in front of you.

The screen is definitely worth it, they reflect the light WAY better.

If you don't want to use the screen then look in to the special paint that does the same thing.
