Good luck. Pre-orders at Toys-R-Us started a couple of weeks ago. Each store was supposed to have 14 units. Someone I know waited in line for a couple of hours before the store opened and there were only 6 so he was SOL.

Store employees will get first dibbs...thats just a bene of working retail.

LOL Good luck, pre-orders started a year ago, atleast.
Getting a PS3 for this Xmas season is going to be harder than getting a seat at a all-u-can-buffet, after Weight Watchers lets out.
Most people predict you will be able to pick one up on Fleabay for no less than $2000.

per gamespot.com

"While a universal sell out was all but assured for the PlayStation 3's Japanese launch last weekend, there was still a question about how many units Sony would be able to provide for the country on the system's first day of sale last Saturday. The answer to that question is 88,400 units, according to a Reuters report citing figures from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain.
The article also says that Namco Bandai Games was responsible for the two best-selling games of the launch, with Ridge Racer 7 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire each selling about 30,000 copies. To claim the top two spots, the pair of games beat out a relatively small collection of other launch titles, including Sega Golf Club and Sony's own pair of launch offerings, Resistance: Fall of Man and Genji: Days of the Blade.
Reuters also reports on the breakdown of 20GB PS3 systems to the premium 60GB PS3 packages. The article again cites Enterbrain figures in saying the 60GB model accounted for about 62 percent of the systems.
The PS3 is scheduled to launch in North America this Friday, November 17. Sony has previously said it expects to have 400,000 systems available for consumers but has not said how many of those will be the 60GB version of the hardware. "

"Earlier today, specialty retailer GameStop told GameSpot that it would be unable to fulfill all of its PlayStation 3 preorders on launch day. Now a Toys "R" Us representative has confirmed some news that will reassure its own preorder customers, and give jilted GameStop customers one less place to consider camping out for a system on day one.
"We have enough [PS3 systems] to cover presells and that's it," the representative said bluntly.
Last month, Toys "R" Us opened up preorders for the PS3 and the Wii, filling up its allotment for both systems in short order. But while the retailer will just barely have enough PS3s to cover those commitments, Nintendo's new console is another matter. The representative said all of the company's stores will have some extra Wii systems to sell to people without preorders.
Sony has previously committed to releasing 400,000 PS3s in North America for launch, while Nintendo has said it "expects to sell 4 million Wii consoles globally by the end of 2006, with the largest allotment available in the Americas."

"Last month, retailer GameStop began accepting "limited" preorders for the PlayStation 3, asking customers to put down $100 in advance for the system, with a modest expectation of eight units per store in most cases. Now it appears the largest gaming specialty chain in North America won't be receiving even that many systems.

A GameStop representative told GameSpot today that the company received launch allocation numbers from Sony, and that it won't be able to fill its existing PS3 preorders. The representative declined to comment on how many systems GameStop expected to receive, or how short of that figure the company's share of systems would be.
"We are beginning to notify our customers that our initial shipment of PS3 systems will not be what we expected," the representative said. "As this is not an ideal situation, we are asking employees to wait to purchase systems until the second shipment. We are anticipating having systems to cover reservations before Christmas."

For launch day, preorders will be filled in the order they were received, and those who had a preorder but are denied a system on day one will receive something for their troubles. GameStop will give those unfortunate customers (as well as unfortunate employees) a free used game or DVD valued at $19.99 or less when they eventually wind up purchasing the system.

Those who reserved a system won't need to wait long to find out if they can expect a system on launch day. Starting tomorrow, customers who preordered a PS3 will be contacted personally by phone and updated on the status of their reservation, the rep said.
And while it might be a nonissue considering the clamor for consumers to get their hands on the coveted systems, GameStop is also asking anyone with a confirmed preorder to pick their systems up by Saturday evening."

This is just a small glimpse of what is really going to happen...
