PS3 or XBOX? - October 22, 2009, 12:10 PM

PS3 or Xbox

I am undecided which to get. Can anyone tell me their experiences with both and which they prefer and why? How does Online play work for both? Reliability? Graphics? Features you like, dislike? etc etc.

I mainly play sports and racing games and the occasional 1st Person Shooter.

xbox - less reliable, but all come with 3 year warranty. I've heard online play is better but you gotta pay for it

ps3 - more reliable, graphics are better, i believe the online play is free. it also plays blu ray. more expensive than xbox.

personally I like xbox because of the titles that are out for it. that's the only thing that lead me to make my decision. other than that I could care less which on I have

edit: o yea, xbox controller is 10x more comfortable because of the positioning of the joysticks. IMO

get the xbox if you're only into gaming.
get the ps3 if you want to use all the pixels in your 1080p tv (blu-ray)
get the xbox if you want to play Halo
get the xbox if you want to play Left 4 Dead
get the ps3 if you want to Uncharted 2.
get the ps3 if you want to play God of War

I say ps3. I picked it up (at the 400$ price) back in November when I got my plasma so I could watch some blurays. One good thing about the ps3- Sony has dumped so much money into it that they will make sure it will play every bluray ever made. Some players can't play movies that were made after their mfg date. I don't do a lot of gaming on the ps3 (got my ps2 for that), but being into RPG games, the ps3 will have a better selection for me than the xbox.

ask yourself-

what kind of games do you play, and which system has better/more of em
do you care for high def movies/1080p?

i think the new $300 ps3 comes w/ a 120gb hdd, mine only has 80gb, and xbox is only 60gb i think

360 - online is more robust than PSN, certain titles are proprietary to Xbox only, reasonably priced add on gadgets like the keypad and headset combo. More titles to choose from.

Down would be reliability but seems to have gotten better. Solution would be to purchase extended warranty thru BestBuy or MicroCenter for ease of exchanges and usually covered longer than factory.

PS3 - Graphics much better, online is getting better as is their "dashboard"
Controllers are much more "tunable" way more than the Xbox units. Every button is programmable. BLUETOOTH makes it easy to add headsets and keyboards and other gadgets. USB ports for "hacks and cheats" if you are into those, makes it easy to integrate into a game. You can surf or watch youtube thru the PS3.

Down is the cost of the damn SONY products for like a add on keypad similar to the xbox for chatting. Online is not as friendly. Definitely buy additional warranty as SONY is a PITA to make a claim and be on them (heard from other owners) Constant updates to the system...

PS3 HDD is easier to upgrade than the migration system that comes with the 120gb xbox upgrade.

I'm kinda leaning towards the PS3 for the versatility and the ability to be a multi media center.

Like I said I play mostly Sports and racing games.

I have an Xbox360, but if I were buying today I'd probably go with the PS3, it's the best value and basically you get a free blue-ray player even if you don't intend to use it. The Wii is still the most over priced at $199, that's why I still got my Gamecube. I haven't tried Sony's online system, but everyone say's Xbox live is better and I like it.

I just switched to ps3 after having xboxs for years cause my 360 got the 3 red lights for the 5th time so i just threw it away. they say the online game play is better with the 360 but the only difference i see is that im not payin fees every month cause psn is free.

Thanks everyone.

I decided to go with the PS3. I like the multimedia options and the blu ray capability. The online play is free.

It was a tough decision. Amer had me ready to go with the XBOX, but I just couldn't pass up on all the extras PS3 had to offer. Who knows I may get an XBOX 360 in a few months.
