Cool Pulled-over on I-66 for Reckless Driving - June 24, 2008, 11:16 PM

The tee-shirt and jeans wearing Fx Cnty officer, in the black unmarked car, said I was doing "over 90 mph" when I entered I-66 from Rt. 28 this afternoon.

"Then you accelerated and moved over two lanes, why not stay in the right lane?" he asks me as I hand him my papers. I didn't have the nerve to answer his "why" question honestly

After a few minutes of sitting in the sun wondering how much an attorney is going to cost me, he comes back with a written warning and a "reckless is automatic jail time in this jurisdiction" talk.

Whew

Impossible Cliff.

It is physically impossible to do 90 mph entering I66 during rush hour.

j/k Sucks to hear - so he got you on radar? Where was he?

Wasn't rush hour. I was heading East on 66 around 2 pm. No radar which is probably why he didn't give me a citation.

The air was fresh, temp just right, picking up speed in the on-ramp - you know the feeling. As I swept around to merge onto 66 a bone-head in a conv Mustang looks over and speeds up to block me. I hesitate then duck behind him and cross-over three lanes - accelerating the entire time. Guess the cop was in the mix of cars around the Mustang.

I slowed to about 75 mph and 'felt' that someone was behind me. Check the mirror and see a black car -- think it's the Mustang and hold my speed. Check the mirror again and see the spotlight -- ouch. I move over to the right before he even hits the lights. I knew I was nailed.

Must have been my lucky day - the cop said I hit 66 at over 90 mph -- good thing he didn't see my speedo as I crossed over the lanes Even my big ole' beast can cross the one-ton mark when it needs to.

My reading comprehension isn't so good at midnight after being in traffic for damn near an hour. I didn't realize you only got a warning.

You lucky SOB!!!

Nah, he just knew the judge would never buy that your bike could go that fast.
