Purchasing a Domain Name - January 10, 2010, 03:19 PM

.Net, I'm purchasing my first domain name and I am forced to make an offer for it. I have never done this before and since there seems to be a good amount of tech savyy people on this site I figured I'd ask.

The web site I have to do it through is www.mostwanteddomains.com

Any thoughts?

it's already owned? don't make an offer. when i wanted dynamitedave.com it was already taken but i waited to see when it expired and the guy didn't renew it so i snatched it up.

you can look up the WHOIS and see when it expires. You can PM the url you want and i'll look it up for you if you want.

I would pick a different name. I get all mine through godaddy.com.
I just bought another one a couple weeks ago. I think i have 4 now.

If he doesn't renew it, then you can get it for whatever the going rate is with the registrar you want to use... I use GoDaddy myself. I'd set a reminder somewhere to go check it out, if he doesn't renew it and you still want it then buy it. If it relates to the URL you just locked up you could have it resolve to the domain name you just bought... if it made sense of course. FWIW, I wouldn't pay one of those cybersquatters a dime.
