Pursuit in Ashburn Village Waxpool about 11ish 08/18/07

Anyone know what that was about? I was at the IHOP and saw what appeared to be a white vehicle being chased by Loudoun's finest...about 6-7 cars behind him , and then a few 3-4 more staggering behind.

Sorry flip should be replace by "Loudouns dumbest" how many does it take to stop one car? Especially in a residental area ... They did the same thing when I was a loudoun cop ... guys would come out from their nap to get in on the action to try to get credit for the arrest. What happened to setting up a perimeter and stop sticks?

The guy ran because he was drunk and suspended. He tried to hit several Deputies, including one who was laying out stop sticks, by deliberately swerving towards him as if to run over him. Making him an instant felon.

One unit had a little different way of dealing with things so when that unit had the chance they took a more "proactive" stance towards getting him stopped. They were down to about 5-10 MPH from 60-70 when the suspect was able to find a crossover and hit a side road.

In the end he got to play with the doggy after he bailed on foot.

As for how many cars does it take to stop someone like this? It takes a LOT, if you keep your officers from using tools like PIT and vehicle containment.

As for stop sticks when you drive around the NOVA area take a look at how many side streets there are. Look at how many places and ways a person could go to parallel roads, double back, etc. Now imagine trying to predict where he's going to go. In the span of Route 625 that he traveled there are no less than 36 different places to turn off onto side roads. That's about 6 possibilities PER MILE. That's just on the one road.

Then you have to figure out which road he's going to take, then you have to get someone at least a minute in front of him to get their car positioned, get the sticks out of the trunk, deploy them, and get to safety. Even then there's no guarantee he's going to stop. Even with a flat tire a car will drive just fine for MILES.

So to answer the question, when you aren't able to use the appropriate techniques, it takes a LOT of cars. He was ultimately stopped when he got into a subdivision and BECAUSE of the number of cars involved he couldn't get out and was ultimately boxed in by geography.

Lt. Colonel Grossman - writes in his introduction to The Bulletproof Mind:

One Vietnam veteran, an old retired colonel, once said this to me: "Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident."....

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf."

Agreed, and this could be argued in alot of other tactical situations as well.
Damn, John Q. Public and their resistance to making NERF cars.
Imagine NERF vehicles!

I would of hopped on my Police R1 and chased him down, pulled out the XD45 and popped his tires, then throw oil on the ground, once his tires were on fire, light a match then sit back and smoke a black and mild.

what is there to talk about?

-question was asked
-some useless comments were made
-another makes a comment and pisses someone off
-someone answered the question with what they thought was the answer
-someone else actually knew the answer and plants their flag
-followed by a few more useless comments

thread seems complete to me!
