Question: Does Anyone Know How To Purchase MilSurp Vehicles - October 6, 2011, 12:03 PM

I know we have a fair number of mil and ex-mil on the board and possibly one of you may have some info on civilian procurement of non-weaponized ex-military vehicles.

Someone on .Com picked up a Vietnam era Deuce and a Half about 2 years ago. And if memory serves, someone else had an old WW2 era Half Track.

Well for quite some time I've always wanted a HMMV, a real one. Unfortunately, the H1 civilian versions still fetch a pretty high asking price. Now that the HMMVs appear to be undergoing a slow phase out in favor of MRAPs, I figure the military will be scrapping or demilitarizing and selling them.

How does a civi go about procuring one? Is there a specific contractor who handles milsurp sales?

I'd be interested specifically in the M1042 configuration - so it definitely did not carry say a tow missile or had a 50cal turret on its top.

I don't know. It's a want... it speaks to me.

It's big and ugly - it's stripped out, clapped out, and utterly utilitarian.
It gets horrible fuel mileage and drinks Diesel like a sailor on shore leave does alcohol.

But it's an itch I've had for close to a decade now.

If it had a few bullet holes I would find it that much cooler! It would add to the patina and character.

Believe me, certain purchases in life aren't rational an even hypocritical. I'm the guy who snickers a bit a guy driving past in a base model BMW Z3 but then I want a Karmann Ghia. Which car is more laughable really?

I'm the guy who rolls his eyes a bit at pick-up truck lifted to the sky and rolling on 30 inch Mickey Thompsons, but also wants Ford F-450 Dually on truck rims.

There are a few sites... usually the DOD contractors and civis in the suply shops are the ones in charge of sending stuff to the auctions..problem is 90% of them scoop them up before they hit auction,...

if i were you id start making Army friends who work in the supply field or mechanic field to be able to get you parts on the low =)

I may or may not know someone whod get those tires fairly cheeeeeap
