IT question - server 2012 - November 26, 2016, 09:20 PM

EDIT: fixed it! hahahaha, i forgot to point it to the server.

To all the IT guys out there

[this is just a testing environment, i want more hands on experience with servers]

Issue: unable to join computer to domain - computer unable to reach domain.

background:

1 fios router - dhcp enabled
1 desktop computer - Server 2012 installed, with Active Directory and DNS, static ip enabled, which is hardwired to my fios router.

So what I'm trying to do, is have the fios router do dhcp, and have my laptop connect wirelessly to the router, but be able to join to the server (which is the desktop).

Note: I'd prefer not to have dhcp off on my router as i have all my other devices connected to it. Also, my laptop doesn't have a ethernet port.

edit: i am able to ping the server from my laptop

I literally just downloaded the evaluation version just so i can get some hands on experience ... not using the server for anything in particular.

Now i can't get my mac to bind to the server though...

Are you trying to just access shared resources or are you trying to "bind" the mac to the domain?

Yes multiple ways. Due to how macs work most do not bother joining to windows domain unless specific application requires some type of domain authentication.
