Question for Townhouse People (Verizon Fios) - December 19, 2011, 07:37 AM

I am getting the cable put in today and I am trying to see what you all have set up for internet. I know at me old place I had the verizon wireless router set up but I am trying to see what is the best way to get connectivity through the entire place.

3 level with the basement as the 3rd level. The Computer desk is on the top level which I am guessing he is going to wire it as it was before. My question from there is how to I get good reception in the basement for laptop use. Do I need to rig another wireless router or what?

No need. Broadcast from top level reached bottom with no need for extension/booster. Bottleneck is still your ISP.

Cool....thats what I am hoping so I don't have to buy a booster. I just found one on Newegg.com that seems to be legit.

Step one - ditch the Verizon router. Meaning, turn off the wireless on it and get a separate wireless - N router. It will double the range for it since their router is only G. I have a dual band for 2.5 and 5 GHz and I get signal all over. Step two, don't use the default channels(1,6,11) on the router. Hardly anyone thinks to change them and you can get interference from other routers in you area. From my experience, the higher your router, the better the signal so with a good one, I don't see why you couldn't get a good signal downstairs. Try that before you get a booster. I'm using this one

It does ok and gives good range. Plus it has a usb port for NAS storage or printer.

Thats cool. I have a Belkin N router that I prefer to use anyways which is what I will do. And changing the channels is nothing so that is something I will do then. Preciate it good folk.

They now give out N routers which offer pretty good signal. I used to run a Linksys E2000 and the FiOS Router; I don't need to anymore.

Ask for the $300 Visa gift card instead. Buy a good router for $75 and have $225 left over for beer and hookers (not saying that is what I did with mine but, you know...).

Actually....I believe I have a N router. Only had Fios for about 4 months then I got raised to the 25/25 internet and actually got a 500 gift card. So I am happy. I think it will reach the basement.
