Quitting Smoking - December 15, 2009, 01:08 PM

OK, so I have quit smoking. I am on the medicine Chantix which makes me dream some crazy shit. But I am doing well on it. I am on Day 5 and I really have no cravings. I have been around people that smoke and was able to not smoke and not even think twice about it.

Anyone else quit recently?
What methods did you use to quit?

Thought maybe a thread like this would be helpful to those that are trying to quit.

I quit 5 years ago. Cold turkey. Me and a bag of peanut butter M&Ms is all it took.

Smoking is dumb.

lol one of the "severe" side effects for Chantix is "don't take if you begin to experience suicidal thoughts or tendencies"

if u want strange dreams - slip yourself an ambien and drink a few glasses of red wine - then FIGHT...FIIIIIIIGHT the urge to sleep even mo betta if you smash a turkey sammich or 2

Cold turkey + sunflower seeds. A week, minus two drunken nights.

Seems like we have alot of people starting to quit smoking.
What is the reason behind it?

The recent smoking ban?
Saw some more insight about health effects?
High cost of Cigs?

Just wondering.

No nicotine in Chantix. It has a chemical that does something with the brain and Dopamine to curb cravings. Side effects are wild dreams and depression.

Tired of doing it and wasting money on it.

among others

Constipation; gas; headache; increased appetite; nausea; stomach upset; strange dreams; taste changes; trouble sleeping; vivid, strange, or unusual dreams; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Chantix:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); behavior changes; chest pain; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; memory loss; new or worsening mental or mood problems (eg, aggression, agitation, anger, anxiety, depression, nervousness, thoughts of hurting other people); red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent nausea; suicidal thoughts or actions; vision changes.

I'm doing it to feel better physically. I've been having a very hard time getting out of bed in the mornings, and just being lethargic over-all. Trying to see if this helps me. Still can't get out of bed in the morning, but feeling better so far.

Also, it's not only the cigs that are expensive. It's the shit you buy along with the cigs.. Mt. Dew, Red Bull, Candy, Snacks, etc. I'm proud to say that I haven't purchased a pack of cigs in over 7 days.

Don't have any of those side effects except vivid dreams, and I have been on it for 2 weeks now.
