Unhappy Reaching out for some help. - December 18, 2012, 09:43 PM

Sad news and don't mean to be a downer around the holiday season, but I would like to ask you guys for a little help.

My girlfriends sister was just diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the month, she is only 23 years old and incredibly healthy. It was a huge shock to all of us. They have no history of cancer in the family and all of her doctors are saying that she is by far the youngest woman that they have seen with breast cancer. She is having her first surgery this week and that determines the rest of the procedures.

They have a small idea on some of the initial expenses from what insurance will not cover and they have added up quickly and I am sure will continue to grow. She is not sure how much she will be able to work throughout the surgery and treatments. I know the financial burden should be the last for her to worry about. I am an only child and she is the closest thing to being my own sister that I have ever had so I am doing everything I can to help her and her family through this. Sundays in January I will be doing discounted tattoos and donate 100% to her if anyone is nearby and wants hurt!!!

Below is a link to a site that the girlfriend and I set up where donations can be made. At the end of the donation period Cristina will draw a name from everyone that has donated from the forum and the winner will get a one of a kind personalized gift as a 'Thank You!'

I know that it's the Christmas season and with presents and traveling money may be tight for some. Whatever you can give, whether it is only a few dollars will be more appreciated by myself, her and her family than I can express. Feel free to pass it along. Thank you so much guys!!!

Cheers!
-Mike-

My sympathies. On a brighter note, as if Cancer could have one, is that breast cancer is one of the most easily defeated forms of cancer if caught early with a high success rate and short recovery time through simple surgery versus more drastic treatment (Chemo or Radiation).

BTW, since you're offering discounted tattoos, have you considered offering holiday gift cards which are probably easier to "gift".
Pay $25 for $50 value
Pay $50 for $100 value. etc. Gift cards are good for 6-12 months so no one feels pressured to "do it now" and you're able to receive the cash up front for future services.

I would totally be down with that. The main thing about the 'Sunday Deal' is, we are closed on Sundays so it's not really money outta the shop's pocket. Its my day off. Also relocating to Colorado late spring, so I don't want the issue of someone buying a GC and waiting til after I am gone to try and claim it. As much as we love what we do, I can't imagine my co-workers would be too thrilled to work for free after I am gone....

In. Been there (except I am a guy, and it was a lot lower.....). Thread bookmarked--will be watching for updates.

If she doesn't know Christina Applegate's story, point her to that. Attitude counts for almost everything right now, and the "....well, I'll now have perky ones at 80" comment was golden.

Bump for a good dude... a great artist... a sweet tattoo... and a worthy cause!
If you have been considering a new tattoo or your first tattoo, use this opportunity to get a great tatt and help a lovely young girl.
